Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Weekly newspaper, Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Absolutely. Thanks, mom, for forcing me to take typing lessons that serve me well to this day.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

A succinct email that lays out why this is relevant to our coverage area should do the trick. If I don't respond, it's not.

Why did you become a journalist?

To tell stories, comfort the afflicted and afflict the comforted and root out misdeeds. And I can't imagine anything more fun.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

New York Times
