Kinston community unites for St. Baldrick’s Childhood Cancer Fundraiser in honor of Colby Tucker — Neuse News
On November 15, 2018, the most courageous kid I have ever known, at the age of 15, passed on to be with the Lord. He was handsome, intelligent, great sense of humor, and a quick wit. He was a gifted musician. His faith was stronger than that of some of the greatest preachers I’ve known. He was the best of us. His name was Colby Tucker. Colby fought Ewing’s sarcoma, a childhood cancer, for more than four years, enduring one surgery and 49 chemotherapy treatments. He never gave up; he was a fighter.
Weekly Addiction Recovery Meeting at Jackson Heights OFWB Church — Neuse News
For much of my life I battled addictions. Drug and alcohol abuse led me to some extremely dark places. Looking back, I’m grateful that there were some good Christian people that helped me when I was at my lowest. If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction, I want you to know that there are good Christian people in Lenoir County that want to help. This is why our addiction recovery ministry at Jackson Heights OFWB Church exists.

Krungthep Kreetha: The Big Mango’s Inner City Secret Golf Course
Time often has a great way of making a good decisions look even smarter. Such is the case with the Krungthep Kreetha Golf Club. First opened in 1969 in what was then an outlying fringe location of Bangkok, urban growth has seen it evolve to become one of Bangkok’s iconic inner city golf courses. The Krungthep Kreetha course requires precision, patience and good timing – and that is just to get to the first tee.
Justin Barnett: Come together — Neuse News
Our nation may be more divided right now along the lines of race that it has ever been before in my lifetime. Recent events have shaken our country. People of color are especially hurting, and many are angry. What our nation needs now is healing. In order to heal, we must come together. In order to come together, there must be understanding. You may have noticed from my picture here on Neuse News that I am a white man.
A prayer for businesses by Pastor Justin Barnett — Neuse News
Lord, thank you for the small businesses in our communities, for the hard work, the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into them. For many, their businesses are not just stores or companies, they are the fabric of their lives and the lives of their loved ones. We pray God that You will guide these small business owners and provide for their families during this difficult and uncertain time.
Justin Barnett: Shorts and flip-flops at church — Neuse News
God actually tells us this very thing in the Bible. In 1 Samuel, God tells the prophet Samuel that he will go and anoint one of Jesse's sons as king, so Samuel goes to see Jesse and his sons. One by one Jesse brings his sons before Samuel, and God tells Samuel that none of them are the king. Jesse then brings out his oldest son that the Bible suggests was bigger and stronger than the rest. Outwardly, he looked the part of a king, but God is not fooled or swayed by outward appearances.
Justin Barnett: When you hurt, He hurts — Neuse News
Jesus also cried a couple of times right before He was crucified. As He approached Jerusalem and thought of all the people that had rejected Him, He cried because He wanted them to know God's salvation, but they rejected Him, and it broke His heart. Again, in the Garden of Gethsemane, the night before He was crucified, Jesus cried. He knew that the only way to save us from our sins was for Him to die for us on the cross in our place.
Justin Barnett: A Life and death issue — Neuse News
September is national suicide prevention month, so I decided that I would write an article about this issue. Since I have preached the funerals and ministered to the families of a few people that committed suicide, and because years ago I came very close to committing suicide myself, this is an issue close to my heart. In the winter of the year 2000, I was at the point where I was ready to take my own life.
Justin Barnett: Local band doing amazing things — Neuse News
In April 2015, I met a group of guys that would literally change my life. We held a youth revival at our church, Jackson Heights, and invited a band called One Promise to be a part of the revival. At first, I was amazed by their music. I love contemporary Christian music, and they sang and played with skill and passion rarely seen. I was blown away. They were as good or better than anything on Christian radio. However, it was something else that impressed me the most — their hearts.
Justin Barnett: Is Jesus simply a myth? — Neuse News
Have you ever heard someone say something like “Jesus is a myth?” I had someone ask me about this recently. It's a popular view amongst those that claim to be atheists or agnostics. However, it's an uneducated view that is absolutely false. Allow me to explain with a very brief history lesson. In A.D. 66, the Jews in Palestine revolted against Roman rule. The Roman emperor sent troops led by Gen. Vespasian to crush the rebellion and regain control. Soon after, Vespasian laid siege to Galilee.
Justin Barnett: Would you like to help a child with cancer? — Neuse News
On November 15, the most courageous kid I have ever known, at the age of 15, passed on to be with the Lord. He was handsome, intelligent, a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He was a gifted musician. His faith was stronger than that of some of the greatest preachers I've known. He was the best of us. His name was Colby Tucker. Barnett: The dumbest thing I've ever done — Neuse News
Like many others, I made a resolution to lose weight again this year. I've struggled with my weight over the last 10 years. I've tried all kinds of things to lose weight, and I'm going to confess to you the dumbest thing I've ever done to try to lose weight. It’s OK if you laugh. How many have ever seen the Ab-Belt advertised on TV late at night? The makers of the Ab-Belt promise all you have to do is wear this belt and you will lose belly fat.
Justin Barnett: Do you believe in miracles? — Neuse News
The universe itself is evidence that God exists. Apart from God, there is no reasonable explanation for the universe. If there is no God, why is there something rather than nothing? There are only two options. Either no one created something out of nothing, or someone created something out of nothing. Which option is more reasonable? No One plus Nothing = Everything? No! The only logical conclusion is that God exists. If God exists, then miracles exist.
Justin Barnett: What does the Bible teach about tattoos? — Neuse News
It would be nice if the Bible gave us a distinct answer for every question. However, the Bible frequently does not give us clear-cut answers about issues. I believe this is because God wants us to think and to wrestle with issues. Often, it is when we wrestle with questions that we grow in our faith and understanding. Some believe it is right to condemn all tattooing as immoral because God clearly forbids tattoos in Leviticus 19:28.
