Finding Joy in Everyday Life: How Simple Moments Create Lasting Happiness
For some, joy can be found in a cup of matcha at a local cafe that resonates. The joy of the barista preparing your beverage, and the joy of taking in more antioxidants. The joy of putting your mobile phone away, and in having your matcha made from heaven waited on you hand and foot. Maybe not that excessively, although I should have left the latter at full table service.
When The Cheese Moves: Protecting Your Mental Health During Times Of Change & Uncertainty
If you have ever studied business at tertiary level, you might be familiar with a book called Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. You would be forgiven for thinking that the author would be psychic, as this book (and hence the metaphor of your cheese being moved) is heavily, unfairly, and relatably relevant today as it has ever been. Change is, and has always been constant.
The Soundtrack Of Success: What My Collective Vocal Media Top Stories Sound Like
Just to ignite some more creativity, both with the existence of music and my passion for freelance writing and creativity; a cool and comforting thought was to compile a playlist - a soundtrack of songs that reflect the meaning of each article that has won a Top Story Award for me on Vocal Media from 2021 until today. And of course this is to inspire people to write if they are writers, and/or to achieve their goals in other areas of life.
The Mental Health Cost of The Cost Of Living Crisis
If only some piggy banks were this pretty. Some may not exist, while others would be smashed open into a difficult puzzle that cannot be put back together again. Sentimentality smashed like a Pinata by a bunch of sugar loaded little munchkins at a kids Birthday party.
The Shape of a Better Life: How Doughnut Economics Reimagines Wellbeing
It is normal to be curious as to what Doughnut Economics is, and what it has to do with the mental health of people, both individually and collectively. Absolutely everything. Interest in this topic came about picking up an old, shrivelled up copy of Wellbeing Magazine at a random cafe. That article would have certainly been written prior to the pandemic, where a prolonged period of inflation and the rising cost of living followed suit.
How Climate Anxiety Is Reshaping Life Decisions
The saying that the future is in our own hands is ever so true, and climate change and concerns for the environment is a thing. The concept of Eco and Climate Anxiety is so real. On this, the entire world was brought into a war with Iran from the 28th of February 2026, where uncertainty is reigning over access to fuel (particularly diesel for agricultural purposes).
The Friendship Recession: Why Adults Are Struggling To Build Close Relationships
This is a universal phenomenon that is affecting both individual and collective psyches. Humans thrive on companionship. The pandemic is solely to blame, however that particular far from auspicious time is not really to blame. The no-friends-trend-turned-friendship-recession, bringing forth the loneliness epidemic was a thing before 2020. A study by the University of Sydney brings to light that 40% of young people are lonely.
Now Hiring...But Not Really? A Closer Look at Today’s Job Market Struggles.
Humans are not perfect. Humans are employers, as well as candidates. We come into the job market imperfect. And we get laid-0ff, or we leave a job/career/business on our own terms, which is a proven risk in today's job market by being imperfect. This article serves as inspiration for surviving a brutal job market for a couple of months, with no solid offer, due to an unexpected layoff at the start of January 2026, despite this being a common phenomenon in tech right now.
The Chocolate Addiction We Don’t Talk About: Surviving the Final Days of a Job Sweetly
It does not matter as to whether or not you are a chocolate aficionado, or a sweet tooth seems to be genetically ingrained in you; or you can't stand chocolate, whether or not you are addicted to this popular cocoa indulgence that was once a form of currency (fun fact); the binge sessions (despite healthy magnesium levels) takes over at least a couple of days before ending a long tenure at a job, whether working for yourself on a freelance or contract arrangement, or for others.
Anxiety After Hospitalization: When Medical Treatment Leaves Emotional Scars
As the title of this article implies; the emotional effects of a hospital stay (even a "short" stay) can linger - even if the relevant medical procedures were an overwhelming success. The emotional effects may not manifest immediately upon discharge, but rather show up in an individuals psyche weeks, months or even years after being discharged from hospital.
What Happens To Your Brain When You Stop Multitasking
Digital technology is the culprit that is causing us to doom scroll when tired, disengaged and unmotivated with the content that motivated you to log onto your device to consume in the first place. That is only the beginning.
Why High Achievers Are Often Depressed
It is true to form in realising that even Superman needs his Clark Kent days in order to re-set and re-charge, hence in being impactful towards high achievement. High achievers are not the best in knowing when to rest and slow down, because that hamster wheel of success and abundance is appetising and appealing. When that hamster wheel (metaphorically speaking, being a metaphor for working too much and/or too hard) either stops or has a malfunction, unfamiliarity occurs.
Addiction Recovery Guide. Breaking Free & Staying Resilient.
Being addicted to either something and/or someone is more common than you think. It is commonplace and natural to think of drugs, food and drinks (mainly the alcoholic variety) when it comes to addictions; yet people can be addicted to a myriad of substances, people, and circumstances. What starts as an obsession breeds an addiction. Buying the same breakfast item every single morning, paying the same price without consciously thinking about your actions.

Toowoon Bay Beach, one of the gems of the Central Coast The Toowoon Bay Beach, just 5 minutes from The Entrance Toowoon Bay Beach is just an hour and a half by private car from Sydney and is one of the best beaches on the Central Coast. Although not everyone looks forward to Christmas, it does means more holidays and we all love that idea. So what more can we say about September?
The Gallery Cafe
For a full belly and a smile on your face On a recent day trip to Mount Tamborine, I came across the quaint Gallery Cafe. Fronted by a lush, green garden, this cafe is a rustic and family friendly eatery. Greeted warmly as we walk in, we're handed our menus and advised of the specials. Despite the booth seating being a little on the small side, the cafe itself is quite open with a lovely view. The meals are a reasonable price and brought out promptly.
Shot on Military Cafe

High Tea at the Little Darling Diner
Not so long ago, we went to Little Darling Diner in Balmain. My mother had never had High Tea before and with her love for cream teas I decided it was high time she sampled one in its most luxuriant form. The 'diner' was incredibly 'darling', with its wallpapered walls and brown leather armchairs. Since it was a lovely sunny afternoon, we were offered a table outside in the courtyard. The waiter brought us chilled champagne and carafes of water (which were constantly refilled).
Where to Find Healthy Frozen Yoghurt in Sydney
A few here...which one is the healthiest? Read on. The Frozen Yoghurt (or Fro-Yo) revolution has well and truly come alive in Sydney. Every time we blink our eyes, it feels like another fro-yo establishment has opened up right in front of our eyes. Yes another Moochi, or another Yogurberry for instance.
Where is Sydney's Best Public Art Display?
Anywhere, on pavements and even on traffic box signals you will find some captivating, bright and refreshing artworks in Sydney. On that note, where are they? Kid friendly art outside a leafy park in Narwee Like Hosier Lane in Melbourne, May Lane in the inner southern suburb of St Peters contains some awesome street art that is updated every few weeks. From a hamster on its wheel to striking imagery, it is a joy to walk right behind St Peters Train Station and admire.
Single Origin Roasters
Heavenly iced coffee and muffin at Single Origin Roasters, Surry Hills It is now a difficult task to find another cafe in the Surry Hills area that is as passionate about a quality brew as this one. Welcome to overstaffed, great service coffee land at Single Origin Roasters. At least in Reservoir Street, you're close to Sydney's central train station.
Cherrypick Frozen Yoghurt Bar
Delicious pomegranate frozen yoghurts can be found here Some sweet cherry has found its way to Oxford Square in Darlinghurst, to cool us all down in the warmer weather. Even if the weather is not so great in Sydney and you love your frozen yoghurt, then Cherrypick Frozen Yoghurt on Oxford Street should still be your frozen yoghurt destination. Cherrypick opened on Friday, the 9th of November.
The Coffee Emporium - Penrith
By now, I am sure we are all aware of my love of coffee and cakes. Penrith Westfield's, was previously known as the quaint Penrith Plaza, and is now quite a large but not over crowded Mall. Do we say Mall in this country? In my usual start to my day, coffee was first on my list but this time in Penrith, home of the Penrith Panthers (not really a footy fan) but anyway. Down from Myer and just before Woolworths was The Coffee Emporium.
Best Places to Eat Out in Groups in Sydney
The more the merrier, as the saying goes. Group dining has never been so fashionable (albeit affordable) in Sydney for all the right reasons. For instance, at some restaurants if group bookings are made, a free bottle of wine is normally included as part of the package. Sailors Thai at The Ivy is offering one course with a glass of wine for $20 for groups of four or more, and this offer is available for lunch and dinner (between 6pm-7pm) any day of the week. The latter is even on a Friday night.
Vapiano Italian Restaurant
Brisbane is the first city in the southern hemisphere to open a local franchise of German-based Vapiano Its great when something you thought you'd previously have to travel overseas for opens up on your doorstep. No longer are the Europeans the only ones lucky enough to enjoy the unique dining concept of Vapiano.
Fragrance Coffee Lab
Amazing cafe latte with sour cherry and almond bread If you find yourself in need for an alternative place to drink a quality brew, go to trendy Darlinghurst and you will find it. Fragrance Coffee Lab is a corner based cafe. It is small and arty. Definitely an art deco style cafe. You would be forgiven for thinking that you have stepped into a chic, retro living room in a friends terrace home or studio apartment nearby. Fragrance Coffee Lab definitely boasts that homely, cosy feeling.
Nok Nok Thai Eating House
Being quite new to Sydney, and to this end of Darling Harbour, it was time to finally eat out at one of the new eateries along Darling Park. On a gorgeous sunny day, and as at the time of writing this: a week away from winter, then why not? Any excuse would do. I had to attend a writers briefing today, and I went out to lunch with a new friend of mine to kill a lazy couple of hours in between. Even cooler, it was on a Monday. Thai cuisine beckoned from yours truly on this occasion.
Ramen Kan Japanese Restaurant
Glimpses of the recent food eaten at Ramen Kan Ramen Kan is a great value for money Japanese restaurant, located near Market City, Chinatown and the Sydney Entertainment Centre. I have been to this establishment for lunch and dinner quite a few times. On this occasion, I visited Ramen Kan on my own, and I was quite satisfied.
Top 5 Museums in Sydney
Museums in Sydney are innovative and provide a great day out, especially if you are someone who appreciates and loves science, technology and even history. These are the top museums in Sydney, and they are not necessarily presented in order of preference. A great go to reference for further planning down the track. 1. Powerhouse Museum If you love science and technology, the Powerhouse Museum at Pyrmont is your go to destination.
The Q1 Apartments
The Q1 apartments at Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast may appear to come across as overrated (maybe and slightly) however the experience of my stay in a two-bedroom apartment was fantastic. The cleaning services were excellent, and the air conditioning was on at the right temperature. Also the quality of the furniture and electrical appliances are top notch; and thus staying on the 40th floor on this occasion made way for a great home away from home.
Old Vienna Coffee House
You have to give the Old Vienna Coffee House at the Queen Victoria Building many thumbs up for their ambience. It feels stylish in such a trendy locale as the Queen Victoria Building. It feels homely and cosy, although the food, coffee and tea is a bit disappointing to say the least. Whether I have ordered scones or a sandwich from this establishment; I have found the food to be stale and the fillings on the sandwiches quite stingy at times.
Martin Place Bar
The Martin Place Bar provides great drinks and food, and we are talking about simple and yet filling food that is above bistro and pub quality for a trendy, chic and contemporary pub such as this one. This is where this establishment has nailed it when it comes to being a high quality establishment.
Four Seasons Hotel
The Four Seasons Hotel right near Circular Quay, is a great and cost-effective five star hotel on this end of town. Even on a warm winter's night, the rooftop pool is just sensational. The hotel staff are prompt at handling guest enquiries, and if you are lucky, there is some leeway on the check in and check out times without any extra charges incurred.
Best Fruit in Inner Sydney
For quality fruits (especially of the tropical kind) leading up to summer, Rozelle and the inner west appears to have to covered. Darling Fresh appear to have your fruit needs covered. Fresh, well presented and appetising. Love their fruit juices and yoghurts at the back of the store. However it is actually their oranges, kiwifruit and apples that are worth buying here for any great snack; especially for those weekend picnics.
Best Sweet Shops in Inner Sydney
Happy juices are definitely flowing, and it is okay once in a while to land into your happy zone, especially after a lot of hard work; you need to 'treat' yourself once in a while. This is where the sweet doctors come into town. The name of this establishment definitely hits the spot here.
Satasia Restaurant
An awesome Asian Fusion that has stood the test of time. Popular, in vogue and has never lost its class or finesse. A great locale and destination for quality Thai food in particular. Anything with eggplant in it is just divine, and their stir fry's are also full of flavour and pack some punch. Not to mention their seafood. Heaven.
Ajisen Ramen Japanese Restaurant
Owner Yoji in the kitchen Tucked away at the law courts end of George Street is Ajisen Ramen, a cosy Japanese noodle house in a part of town that is otherwise fairly uninspiring, food-wise. Frequented mostly by office workers and clued-in Asian students, it offers hearty ramen noodle soups and other Japanese dishes at affordable prices.
