Your sign-up form is a weapon
A couple of weeks ago, we noticed something odd on Suga. New users were signing up but not doing anything, they weren’t creating an org, a project, or a deployment, they just left an account sitting there. Most new users interact with the product pretty quickly, and we report on activity stats to try and understand blockers, so even a small spike in completely inactive accounts stood out.
Linear sent me down a local-first rabbit hole
Skip to content I started using Linear a couple of months ago and using it made me go down a technical rabbit hole that changed how I think about web applications. For the uninitiated, Linear is a project management tool that feels impossibly fast. Click an issue, it opens instantly. Update a status and watch in a second browser, it updates almost as fast as the source. No loading states, no page refreshes - just instant, interactions. After building traditional web apps for years, this felt wrong.
Ubuntu 24.10 Refreshes Gnome, Permission Prompts
For decades, Ubuntu has been considered one of the most user-friendly Linux distributions on the market. There are so many good reasons for that, such as a well-designed and executed desktop environment, the simplicity of the apt package manager (as well as the GUI frontend that goes with it), and the impeccable hardware detection. I’ve used Ubuntu (and Ubuntu-based distributions) for decades and can attest to how easy it is.
Pop!_OS: One of the Best Linux Distros For Creators of All Types
I’ve been using Linux for nearly 30 years, and I’ve witnessed every type of distribution come and go. There have been distributions ranging from the very basic to the gimmicky and everything in between. I spent years “distro hopping,” which included the likes of Caldera OpenLinux, Corel Linux, Red Hat (way before Fedora/RHEL), Ubuntu, elementary OS, Bodhi Linux, Ubuntu Budgie, Deepin, Fedora, Zorin OS and more.
Running Llama 3.2 on AWS Lambda
Llama 3.2 1B is a lightweight AI model that makes it interesting for serverless applications since it can be run relatively quickly without requiring GPU acceleration. We’ll use models from Hugging Face and Nitric to demonstrate using it and manage the surrounding infrastructure, such as API routes and deployments. Prerequisites uv — for Python dependency management The Nitric CLI (optional) An AWS account Project Setup Let’s start by creating a new project using Nitric’s Python starter template.
Beyond IaC: Fixing Cloud’s Separation of Concerns Problem
Managed services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) have become indispensable for modern apps. They simplify the deployment and management of cloud resources, offering a streamlined path to building scalable, reliable systems. However, there’s a hidden cost to this convenience: a growing brittleness in our applications and a severe lack of true separation of concerns. Let’s explore these issues, using a practical example to highlight the challenges of working with managed services and IaC.
Less Code Alternatives to Low Code
In the first part of our series, we broke down the ideological difference between “low code” and “less code.” We established that while low-code solutions democratize software development, they come with limitations, particularly with respect to the development of sophisticated systems. Each line of code added to a system contributes to the complexity and maintenance burden of that system. For those reasons, the goal is for teams to deliver as much value with as little code as possible.
Broken Promises of the Low-Code Approach
This is the first of a three-part series. It’s easy to get swept up in the enthusiasm for low-code and no-code solutions (which I’ll refer to simply by low code), especially with their enticing promise of simplicity and user-friendly interfaces. They’ve been hailed as the answer to the IT skills gap, enabling non-technical users to create functional applications without having to write a single line of code.
Jye Cusch
Will Elon Musk actually destroy Twitter? CSAM poster re-instatement, “absolute free speech,” talent-gutting, massive advertiser exodus … What does it take to kill the bird? Yup. He borked it into a death spiral the instant he signed on as CEO. Essentially, yes. It’ll take a while to descend into its radioactive Xesspool destiny, but it’s inevitable it will join the ranks of 4chan, 8chan, Nchan, Xchan … Please yes, and quickly. I’m just done with all this stupid drama over this stupid little app.
