1 Background and Critical Need Permanent magnets (PMs) underpin high-power-density energy conversion technologies, enabling compact and efficient motors and generators for consumer electronics, electric vehicles, wind turbines, and industrial drive systems.[1-3] The RE─Fe─B magnets[4-7] especially Nd─Fe─B[8-10] dominates today's high-performance applications because of their exceptional maximum energy product ((BH)max ≈35–50 MGOe[11]; Figure 1), which arises from the synergistic combination...
1 Introduction Ten years ago, inorganic boron cluster anions [1-4], along with polyoxometalates [5-7], have been found to serve as high-affinity binders to cyclodextrins (CDs), with affinities approaching the micromolar regime in water [1-3]. This supramolecular affinity was unexpected, because CDs have been previously recognized as selective binders for hydrophobic organic guest molecules—while the cluster ions carry multiple negative charges.
