The East Greenland Polar Front as a Mediator of Climate‐Ocean‐Ecosystem Variability Along Southeast Greenland
1 Introduction Fronts are some of the most ecologically important features of the ocean and often associated with high levels of biological productivity across the entire food web. This is a corollary of the influence of fronts on exchanges with the surrounding environment. Fronts impact these exchanges in two main ways: Firstly, they act as physical barriers to horizontal mixing limiting exchange of properties and materials in the across-front direction (Belkin et al., 2009).
Phys. Rev. C 109, 034918 (2024) - Parallel scattering, saturation, and generalized Abramovskii-Gribov-Kancheli (AGK) theorem in the EPOS4 framework, with applications for heavy-ion collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{NN}}$ of 5.02 TeV and 200 GeV
Ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions will first realize many nucleon-nucleon scatterings, happening instantaneously and therefore necessarily in parallel, due to the short collision time. An appropriate quantum mechanical tool to treat that problem is S-matrix theory, and it has been known for a long time how to derive a simple geometric probabilistic picture, still widely used, and here the Abramovskii-Gribov-Kancheli (AGK) theorem plays a crucial role.
Phys. Rev. C 109, 014910 (2024) - Core-corona procedure and microcanonical hadronization to understand strangeness enhancement in proton-proton and heavy ion collisions in the EPOS4 framework
The multiplicity dependence of multistrange hadron yields in proton-proton and lead-lead collisions at several TeV allows one to study the transition from very big to very small systems, in particular, concerning collective effects. I investigate this, employing a core-corona approach based on new microcanonical hadronization procedures in the epos4 framework, as well as new methods allowing one to transform energy-momentum flow through freeze-out surfaces into invariant-mass elements.
Phys. Rev. C 108, 064903 (2023) - Revealing a deep connection between factorization and saturation: New insight into modeling high-energy proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus scattering in the EPOS4 framework
It is known that multiple partonic scatterings in high-energy proton-proton (pp) collisions must happen in parallel. However, a rigorous parallel scattering formalism, taking energy sharing properly into account, fails to reproduce factorization, which on the other hand is the basis of almost all pp event generators. In addition, binary scaling in nuclear scatterings is badly violated.
Perturbative QCD concerning light and heavy flavor in the EPOS4 framework
We recently introduced new concepts, implemented in EPOS4, which allows us to consistently accommodate factorization and saturation in high-energy proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus collisions in a rigorous parallel scattering framework.
A helium-burning white dwarf binary as a supersoft X-ray source - Nature
Abstract Type Ia supernovae are cosmic distance indicators1,2, and the main source of iron in the Universe3,4, but their formation paths are still debated. Several dozen supersoft X-ray sources, in which a white dwarf accretes hydrogen-rich matter from a non-degenerate donor star, have been observed5 and suggested as Type Ia supernovae progenitors6,7,8,9. However, observational evidence for hydrogen, which is expected to be stripped off the donor star during the supernova explosion10, is lacking.
