Tapping in Synchrony With Beat Enhances Groove Sensation
1 Introduction Listening to music induces bodily movement, such as dancing or swaying one's body. The pleasurable urge to move in response to music is commonly referred to as groove [1-6]. The groove sensation is typically strongest at medium levels of syncopation and exhibits an inverted U-shaped relationship with the degree of syncopation [6-8]. Predictive coding accounts propose that groove sensation arises from higher precision-weighted prediction error in syncopation [9-12].
Active Inference in Music Perception: Motor Engagement to Syncopation Modulates Rhythmic Prediction Error
1 Introduction Humans enjoy moving and dancing to music. How does the human brain give rise to this complex engagement with music? One possible framework for explaining this musical phenomenon is active inference via the free energy principle (Vuust et al. 2018; Vuust and Witek 2014). The free energy principle explains perception, learning, and action in terms of free energy minimization (Friston 2005, 2010, 2012).

Decoding predicted musical notes from omitted stimulus potentials - Scientific Reports
Abstract Electrophysiological studies have investigated predictive processing in music by examining event-related potentials (ERPs) elicited by the violation of musical expectations. While several studies have reported that the predictability of stimuli can modulate the amplitude of ERPs, it is unclear how specific the representation of the expected note is.
