FoodEEs Ep. 14: Sushi Tani
In the FoodEEs series, El Estoque staff members take on different food establishments, reviewing the menu items based on taste, price and authenticity. Located on De Anza Boulevard in Cupertino, Sushi Tani brings a Japanese menu that offers plenty of variety, but the strongest dishes prove that balance and ingredient quality matter more than quantity. There is little decoration in the place, and the interior is small and understated; its clean, neat design gives the restaurant a rigid atmosphere.

More than words
English teacher Shozo Shimazaki still remembers how difficult it used to be to watch Japanese shows in the U.S., when his family could only rent recordings from the local video rental shop. Now, as access to international media has been expanded through streaming sites like Netflix and Crunchyroll, more viewers are watching shows in foreign languages, bringing subtitles and dubs to center stage.

‘Slay the Spire 2’ deals another winning hand
Following the success of the original “Slay the Spire,” Mega Crit Games released “Slay the Spire 2” for early access on March 5, and it has already proved itself a worthy successor. The sequel keeps the original game’s objective of climbing up a spire while defeating enemies through turn-based combat and strategic deckbuilding that made the first game so addictive, while providing enough new content like multiplayer co-op features and new playable characters to keep audiences interested.

The Academy Awards need to better live up to the story they tell
This year’s nominations highlight a long-standing pattern of the Oscars’ underrepresentation of Asian international films and performances “The aperture must widen to reflect our diverse global population in both the creation of motion pictures and in the audiences who connect with them,” reads a page of the Oscars’ official website, quoting Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson’s comments about the Academy Awards.
‘The Rise’ project at Vallco will not increase enrollment in FUHSD
“The Rise,” a development project near the former Vallco shopping center that has been at the center of community debate for eight years, is being reconstructed into housing, office space and recreational areas. “The Rise California” will deliver 2,669 housing units, including 356 units designated as affordable for lower-income households. However, “The Rise,” which is in Cupertino High School’s geographical boundary, is unlikely to lead to increased enrollment for FUHSD.
EE: Although MVHS has no shortage of dedicated teachers, a small group stands apart. Shuffling between classrooms, hauling supplies and racing the clock during tight passing periods, they navigate challenges most of their colleagues never have to consider. And while they share the same situation, each teacher brings a distinct perspective to what it means to be constantly shifting classrooms.
