What was your first job as a journalist?
Editing "Ships and Shipping" and "Ausmarine" magazines.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Not professionally but as a child/teen (and correction tape was my best friend).

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I like to tell stories that explore place, heritage, and craft.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
iPhone, Macbook, DSLR, gimbal – supported by a Swiss army knife of apps. Needles and wool for the quiet moments.
What's your favorite social network?
I am a visual person who mainly shares images of my knitted lobsters so you'll mostly find me on Instagram.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A piece for Conde Nast Traveler that traces a line from my grandfather’s lobster boat in 1950s Newfoundland to Nova Scotia and Maine today.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Sitting by the water, knitting.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I hoard The New Yorker.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That everything needs to involve water or cold weather.
