Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, when I was a kid my grandma let me use her electric typewriter and I thought I was hot shit.

I am very low tech and do my best writing with pencil and paper

Ha! I was a freelance writer for the school paper, too. Some things never do change.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Learn how to do research, and always have a healthy dose of skepticism in your mind.
When's the best time to pitch you?
My best time for writing is first thing in the morning, so pitch in the evening or early morning, especially if you want a fresh take.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
People send me DMs on social media with suggestions on how to reword my posts to better fit their agenda. Don’t be like these people.
What's your favorite drink?
Iced Tea
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On a walk, reading a book, or goofing off with my kids.

The Atlantic and The Onion
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Living in Edinburgh, people assume I’m middle class through and through. If only they knew, I’ve flirted w/ the poverty line most of my life.
