Bear Bites: Starbucks Debuts New Summer Drinks
With summer right around the corner, Starbucks has introduced both a spicy take on their original three refresher flavors as well as a new flavor and topping altogether. Spicy and boba refreshers both seem like odd flavors, so we tried them to see if they were worth their money. The spicy new take on three popular fruity refreshers infuses their tasty fresh flavor with a three-pepper chili blend. It is an unconventional move for Starbucks, which rarely balances out its drinks’ sugar content.
Boys Volleyball Add to Stellar Season
On Wednesday, the boy’s volleyball team took on the San Mateo Bearcats, sweeping them in three sets to add to their excellent 25-6 record. The Bears started off strong. A first-point service error from San Mateo set M-A up for success, with junior Johnny Kerr and sophomore Ben Warner earning consecutive points from tool kills off the block.

Club Spotlight: Aletheas Club
Senior Ajax Fu founded the Aletheas club his freshman year to share his long-time interest in the Classics and make learning the Classics more accessible. “Philosophy and Classics try to ask really interesting questions about the world and people and what it means to be human. It’s what mankind has been asking forever, and this club is a glimpse into subjects that are inherent to experiencing life itself. So, we think it’s important for everybody to have access to it,” Fu said.

Trick-or-Treat: The Filipek Barbie Scream House
With the Halloween season at a close, it’s safe to say that no family takes the holiday as seriously as M-A’s Filipek family. The Filipek house—located a mere three blocks away from M-A—has seen years worth of Halloween designs and elaborately themed constructions around Halloween time. In the eighth season of transforming their house into an elaborate spooky-themed haunt, the Filipek family attracted nearly 3,000 people to their 2023 Barbie Scream House.

Satire: I Just Wanted A Rug
I wake up in the morning with an overwhelming desire. Oh, how I need a rug! My warm, tender toes strike the brutally cold floor, craving the luxury of a comforting plush rug beneath my feet. Preferably, a Persian one. Recognizing the social injustice my toes are victim to, I venture down to Santa Cruz Ave, A.K.A. ‘The Hub’ for rug stores. Overwhelmed by the myriad of rug stores, I break down in tears of joy. How lucky I am to live so close to the Mecca of rug stores.
