Formerly EIC of The Counter, an independent, nonprofit newsroom covering the politics, business, and culture of American food, where I oversaw partnerships and edited investigative, feature, and senior staff reporting from 2015 - 2022.
Under my editorship, The Counter won a James Beard Media award for health reporting, multiple awards from the Society for the Advancement of Business Writing and Editing (SABEW) in 2020, 2021, and 2022—including for general excellence—the New York Press Club, Newswomen's Club of New York, Society for Environmental Journalists, North American Agricultural Journalists Association, and others.
In 2019, The Counter was named one of the four best micro-newsrooms in the country by the Online News Association.
In 2020, The Counter's pandemic reporting was inducted into the Library of Congress' coronavirus web archive.
Former regular guest on Sirius XM's The Big Picture POTUS show and CNBC's "Closing Bell," among others.
Between 2015 and 2019, The Counter was published under the name The New Food Economy. I joined TNFE as its second hire, after several years reporting on the American age boom for radio and text as a freelance health reporter. I've written extensively about end-of-life issues, elder incarceration, and the plight of living organ donors, and I reported and produced “The Hidden Crisis,” a three-part radio documentary about the nation’s first emergency shelter for victims of elder abuse.
