Teen Vogue’s Political Activist Writers
Teen Vogue is a political publication, with writers who have policy objectives and ties to political organizations. For example, Allegra Kirkland, the politics director of Teen Vogue, was previously a reporter (and later senior editor) at Talking Points Memo, a left-biased news website, where she covered “extremist groups, voting rights, and the Trump administration.” Her articles at TPM included criticisms of Ron DeSantis, William Barr’s “absurd defenses” of Donald Trump, and GOP gerrymandering.
Teen Vogue NC-17
Editor’s Warning: This article contains some unavoidably explicit discussion. A section on the Teen Vogue website is titled “Sex and Relationships.” If you’re anything like me, the mere fact that a publication with “teen” in the name has a sex section is shocking. Some of the articles in the section are exactly what I expected from writers hired to attract girls who are in their tweens and teens, like “201 Fun Questions to Ask Friends” (though some of the questions are strange).
Teen Vogue: More Politics Than Fashion
If you visit TeenVogue.com today, you’ll see a tab called “Politics.” Recent headlines include “What does Donald Trump’s Indictment Actually Mean?” and a slew of articles on “trans kids,” including bathroom bans and “How to Be an Advocate for Trans Student Athletes.” A deep dive into old Teen Vogue magazines reveals no such headlines, which begs the question — why has Teen Vogue moved from puff pieces about spring style to endorsements of communism? Does the shift matter?
After Roe v. Wade, Abortion Still Accessible in All 50 States
Think abortion is inaccessible in your state? Think again. Aid Access, a nonprofit organization founded in 2018 and run by Dutch physician Rebecca Gomperts, prescribes the abortion pill (technically two medications: mifepristone and misoprostol) to women in all 50 states—including those where abortion is heavily restricted. The organization receives more than 4,000 requests for abortion pills daily. Orders from pro-life states have increased significantly since Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Satire: VUSAC election results
Victoria University Students’ Administrative Council’s (VUSAC) new President, Georgina Bush, promised to invade University College (UC) to “free the UC people” from the authoritarian regime of fraternity brothers, while also disarming them of their stash of weapons of mass destruction (Axe body spray). While public support is generally on Bush’s side, one angry student launched their shoes at Bush during last Friday’s town hall.
