Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I wrote my first short stories on an old (electric) typewriter.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Brooke English

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Telling the truth, being fair, having fun.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Two iPhones, DSLR camera (plus a new mirrorless camera,) Google Apps, Gmail, Dropvox.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?

I like highlighting the great people in the city and exposing the liars. Also it gets me out of an office.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I ran a fake advice column for Stella Maris High School's paper, The Beacon.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My seal coverage, and the story about a 13-year-old girl who jumped through a moving car to grab her stolen cell phone from a thief.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

You'll find the best stories when you walk around, or when you aren't looking. So make sure you're always on.
