The Eudaimonic Utility of Learning Spaces
Abstract As schools face record absenteeism, needed are ways of indexing forces that motivate youths’ attendance. In this paper, we introduce eudaimonic utility (EU): the perception that an environment can help someone become the person they are meant to be. An environment with high EU is seen as a place where one can (a) pursue their purpose in life, (b) grow, (c) bring out their best, and (d) live authentically.
Establishing validity and measurement invariance of the Claremont Purpose Scale among adolescents from diverse racial–ethnic backgrounds
Initially introduced by Frankl (1963) as a force that enables individuals to endure and overcome life's hardships, the concept of purpose has since been expanded by empirical research.
Within‐person variability in daily purpose moderates the association between trait purpose and adolescent adjustment
There is nothing so efficacious that it can be helpful while it is being shifted about. —Seneca, Letters from a Stoic (Letter 2) INTRODUCTION Purpose in life, defined as an overarching life aim that organizes goals, provides direction, and imbues experiences with meaning (McKnight & Kashdan, 2009; Ryff, 1989), has been established as an asset for positive youth development.

INTRODUCTION Imagine adolescence as a bustling train station. Young passengers eagerly await a train, standing on platforms with a destination—Adulthood—hanging above them. For many in the mid-twentieth century, the boarding requirements for this train were predictable: secure a stable job, find a romantic partner, and voilà! You had a ticket to a fulfilling adult life, complete with homeownership, family, and a path to retirement.
Heterogeneity in the Developmental Trajectories of Chinese Youth Educational Aspirations: Identifying Predictors and Outcomes
In the second decade of life, young people think about who they are, who they are becoming, and who they can be. This paves the way for the establishment of identity and future possible selves (Erikson 1968; Oyserman and Fryberg 2006). Educational aspirations (EAs) play a key role in this process.

Derailment in adolescence: Factor analytic structure and correlates
Forming initial ideas about who we are and where we are going in life—establishing our senses of identity and self-direction—is an essential task of adolescence (e.g., Branje et al., 2021; Bronk, 2011; Damon et al., 2003). Happening alongside these processes, however, are several social, cognitive, physical, and personality-based changes that may put adolescents at risk for the onset of psychopathology (Solmi et al., 2022).
Purpose and goal pursuit as a self‐sustaining system: Evidence of daily within‐person reciprocity among adolescents in self‐driven learning
1 INTRODUCTION Understanding goal pursuit is foundational to the study of human flourishing (e.g., Emmons, 2003). When people select meaningful objectives, maintain their direction despite setbacks, make incremental progress, and adjudicate between goals effectively, favorable outcomes like academic achievement and subjective well-being tend to follow (Brandstätter & Bernecker, 2022; Klug & Maier, 2015; Lam & Zhou, 2022; Richardson et al., 2012; Wrosch & Scheier, 2020).
