They are opening their brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season featuring the reigning 2016 NFL MVP in quarterback Matt Ryan. Who wouldn’t want to get in on that action? The Atlanta based fast-food franchise Chick-fil-A sure wanted in on some of that. It seems like a no brainer for them to have their very own booth at the brand new shiny stadium. I read an article in Sports Illustrated entitled “The Many Layers of Boston’s Beef With Ray Allen” and it got me to thinking about the fact that as die hard sports fans we too often forget that sports are JUST sports. Ray Allen left the Boston Celtics in 2012 for the Miami Heat. The same Miami Heat team that knocked the Celtics out of the playoffs in 2012 and 2011 ending all their hopes of repeating after winning an NBA title in 2008.

Federer absolutely dominated the Croatian on his way to his 19th Grand Slam. Carmichael Dave and I touched on Wimbledon this morning during The Drive on Sports 1140. Our intention was to talk about the greatness of Federer but the conversation took an unexpected turn. The 35-year-old Federer was so overwhelming that at one point Cilic, down 6-3 3-0 in the 2nd set, called for a medical timeout and broke into tears on Centre Court. It was Cilic’s tears that took the conversation in a very direction.

He’s been the Defensive Player of the Year twice and has been the driving force behind the success of an aging San Antonio Spurs team for the past three years.

Apparently Wright’s flight from O’Hare was canceled so the 30-year old, who recently signed a 1-year deal to play with Buffalo, decided he was gonna get there come hell or high water. With just under 8:00 left in the third quarter of Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals Zaza Pachuilia closed out to contest a Kawhi Leonard jumper on the left baseline. Leonard came down on Pachulia’s foot and rolled his left ankle for the second time in the game. Leonard shot his two free throws then went to the locker room. He never returned to the game. The Spurs squandered a 25-point lead to ultimately lose 113-111. Leonard missed Game 2 in Golden State Tuesday night.
