The Iran war is complicating the global scramble for gas power turbines

The energy price fallout from the U.S. war with Iran is reaching beyond gasoline prices at the pump. An executive for a major manufacturer of turbines needed for gas power plants said the war has caused turbine prices to increase. That means it costs more to build new power plants at a time when monthly electricity bills are already high, due in part to increased electricity demand.

Texas governor pushes new rules for data centers as voters sour on big tech

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a directive Wednesday to increase government oversight of data centers and protect consumers. “The rapid scale of data center development requires oversight to ensure everyday Texans are not burdened with the costs of infrastructure driven by data center expansion,” Abbott wrote in a letter to Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Texas, Thomas Gleeson, and the CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Pablo Vegas.

How energy costs drove inflation past 4% while core prices held steady

Inflation rose by 4.2% in May, driven largely by rising fuel prices due to near total closure of the Strait of Hormuz. It’s the highest annual increase in inflation since April 2023. Gasoline prices in May were up 40.5% from a year earlier and 7% compared with April, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report.

We only had yearbook, not a newspaper in high school. but I was a Copy Editor at my college paper, The Daily Californian.
