Winter monsoon variability accompanies Xisha SST–North China hydroclimate teleconnection reversal during the Medieval climate anomaly
Abstract Winter sea surface temperature (SST) in the South China Sea is a precursor of North China hydroclimate, but the relationship’s long-term stability remains uncertain. Using monthly resolved Xisha coral Sr/Ca-SST and three hydroclimate reconstructions analyzed at native temporal resolution, we find that the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA, 1149–1205 CE) is the only sampled interval with a cross-proxy-consistent positive relationship.

Diel transcriptional responses of coral-Symbiodiniaceae holobiont to elevated temperature - Communications Biology
Abstract Coral exhibits diel rhythms in behavior and gene transcription. However, the influence of elevated temperature, a key factor causing coral bleaching, on these rhythms remains poorly understood. To address this, we examined physiological, metabolic, and gene transcription oscillations in the Acropora tenuis-Cladocopium sp. holobiont under constant darkness (DD), light-dark cycle (LD), and LD with elevated temperature (HLD).

Frontiers | High-Resolution Reconstruction of Dissolved Oxygen Levels in the Baltic Sea With Bivalves - a Multi-Species Comparison (Arctica islandica, Astarte borealis, Astarte elliptica) | Marine Science
1 Introduction Severe oxygen deficiency endangers aquatic ecosystems potentially resulting in dead zones. When dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration falls below approx. 2.3 mg/L (≙ 1.6 mL/L or 72 µmol/L; Vaquer-Sunyer and Duarte, 2008; equivalent to approx. 30% DO saturation; Rabalais et al., 2010) – the transition from normoxic to hypoxic waters –, most invertebrates and fish can no longer properly respire (Herreid, 1980).
Microbiomes of Healthy and Bleached Corals During a 2016 Thermal Bleaching Event in the Andaman Sea of Thailand
Introduction Coral bleaching is defined as a breakdown of coral-algae symbiosis, when the corals are stressed by a variety of factors, in which the increased atmosphere temperature (thus seawater temperature) is the major triggering cause, and the endosymbiotic algae (in particular photosynthetic dinoflagellate Symbiodinium) expel (Hoegh-Guldberg and Smith, 1989; Bruno et al., 2001; Eakin et al., 2010).
Antibiotics Alter Pocillopora Coral-Symbiodiniaceae-Bacteria Interactions and Cause Microbial Dysbiosis During Heat Stress
Introduction Microbial symbioses are fundamental to the structure and functioning of marine ecosystems, and influence marine organisms’ ecology, evolution, and stress responses (O’Brien et al., 2019; Wilkins et al., 2019; Apprill, 2020).
