Japan’s Paradigm Shift
A landslide electoral mandate could speed up reforms, support domestic demand and push corporate cash into higher returns—key ingredients for a more durable re-rating of Japanese risk assets. Investors have been invited more than once in recent years to believe that “Japan is back.” Since the “lost decades” of the early 1990s through much of the 2000s, the challenge has not been a lack of potential catalysts.

Japanese Equities in 2025: Goldilocks Would Approve
Japanese Equities: Are the “Lost Decades” Finally in the Rear View? We believe a combination of macroeconomic, geopolitical and regulatory tailwinds could bode well for Japanese equities in 2025 and sustain a broader-based rally than in recent years, especially among companies that generate the bulk of their revenues from the domestic economy.
Why Japan bounced back
For years, Japan was the large developed market that many investors assumed they could ignore. If the returns of the past couple of years hadn’t put an end to that, the excitement of the past two months almost certainly did. Having tumbled to a historic low, the yen spent July and August soaring 12% against the dollar. At the same time, the equity market plunged by almost 25%, wiping out a year of gains, before rebounding by more than 20%.
Why Japan Bounced Back
A huge market shock and a prime Minister heading for the exit—does any of what happened in August affect the long-term investment story for Japan? Today’s CIO Weekly Perspectives comes from guest contributors Keita Kubota and Kei Okamura. For years, Japan was the large developed market that many investors assumed they could ignore. If the returns of the past couple of years hadn’t put an end to that, the excitement of the past two months almost certainly did.
The Wonders of Japan’s Economy
In the last year, we saw Japanese equities led by Nikkei 225 and TOPIX gaining more than 30%. All while, the Bank of Japan raised interest rates for the first time in 17 years in March. With this active economic backdrop, what lies ahead for the Japanese market? How do geopolitical dynamics influence Japan? What should investors keep in mind when investing in this economy?
