What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked as a beat reporter for a local community college.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I love the sound of them, actually.
How is social media changing news?
Social media is changing the way news is both reported and consumed. I, for one, am thoroughly excited about it.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means delivering all sides of the story and shining a light on every truth, no matter how ugly it is.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
No frills.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I wanted to know more about the world around me and tell everyone else that would listen what I learned.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked for the Belmont High School newspaper where I was the lifestyles editor.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Currently, I am following the development of HB 565 in the Ohio Statehouse, which could outlaw abortion if passed.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Never be afraid to approach someone, no matter their station, and as the questions you know the public wants an answer to.
What's your favorite drink?
Milk or Dr. Pepper.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
