Kelly Bishop’s Biography

Hello, I'm Kel, a freelance writer from Manchester, UK.

Mainly, I write about food. I think food stories are human stories. They tell us so much about identity, culture, history, and life in general. I also write about wine, another subject that incorporates so much of human life within it: science, art, passion, history, geography, struggle. I write about travel for all of the above reasons too. Lately, I have added cats, AI, music, and feminism to my published topics list. I aim to be sharp, witty and creative in my writing but can adapt my tone accordingly.

Previously, I was Editor of digital lifestyle magazine Manchester's Finest. Before that, I was Executive Editor at Confidentials overseeing sites in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, and helping to launch a restaurant guide Confidential Guides. I was one of the main restaurant critics at Confidentials, writing entertaining, honest, critical reviews.

I'm a musician and songwriter who has toured the world and performed on many stages with many bands and choirs. I'm currently focusing on my indie punk band The Empty Page. You can find us on Spotify.

I've been a security guard, teacher, fashion business owner, chef, chambermaid, and tarot card reader amongst other things. I dropped out of three colleges in favour of playing in punk bands and didn't do a degree until I was in my 30s. I think this eclectic life experience makes me a better writer.
