Federal Funding, School Bus Program Creates Avenues for Cleaner Municipal Transit
Federal funding is available for municipal leaders looking to reduce carbon emissions in public transportation fleets. The transportation sector is the largest emitter of carbon in the U.S. and funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is available to help local bus systems, including public school buses, become zero or low emissions.

Your Image - Mini-Adventures, Big Rewards (preview)
Does the thought of getting up a couple of hours before dawn to trek to the same tried and true local areas have the appeal of brushing your teeth, washing your car or taking out the garbage? On a planned shoot day, do you roll over in bed and hit snooze or say to your spouse, wake me in 10, OK? If that’s the case, it might be time for a min-adventure! What’s a mini-adventure you ask?
Your Image - Handling the Wow Moments (preview)
It’s probably a safe bet to say that many people have experienced moments in the great outdoors, or even in an urban setting for that matter, that makes one feel like you’re having an out-of-body experience, that literally leaves you captivated and unable to think of anything else as you see the magic of a natural moment unfold before you. If you’re not a photographer, great, sit back and enjoy the moment with a friend or loved one.
Resource status quo has got to go
Dear Mrs. Ackerman, a friend e-mailed me your letter “about energy, pipelines and our natural resources.” The point you miss, production and demand for fossil fuels are not mutually exclusive as they are linked by transportation. Understandable, you ignore the risks in transporting bitumen, and chose to discuss your region’s bread and butter issue, production and consumption, while at the same time you want to make rules for others in BC about their needs without asking for their input.
Your Image - The Style's the Limit (preview) - Outdoor Photography Canada
If you’re shooting almost exclusively landscape or wildlife content and you’re wanting to move into environmental portraits, even if it’s just a small portion of your content, incorporating elements into those portraits that fit your already existing style is a great way to get started. My photography career got underway like I just described, shooting wildlife and landscapes, with absolutely no people or human elements.
Your Image - Crop Sensor vs Full-Frame: Should I Switch? (full story)
If you’re like most, you started out in the bold world of DSLR photography with a crop sensor camera. You may have made the switch to full-frame, or perhaps not, each for a variety of reasons. I dare to say most pros use a full-frame system (depending on their chosen content/field), but some use both. Sound befuddling already? And if you’re shooting with a crop sensor system, is it really a move up, or just a move?
Your Image - The Key Elements to Environmental Portrait Lighting (preview)
Environmental portraiture and artificial lighting done properly go together like a fine wine and a gourmet meal or a beer and great barbeque — take your pick, both are delicious! Utilized too strongly or from a direction that’s not complementary to the available light and it can have results that are more like chocolate and garlic: interesting, but maybe tried once is good enough. Personally, I use artificial lighting a lot during environmental portrait shoots.
Your Image - Create Your Own Inspiration (preview)
Creation deflation, frozen shutter syndrome, photographer’s block, stimulation stagnation. I could go on, but then we would end up talking about neurosis and therapy and B.F. Skinner, etc., so let me stay on track and ask, have you been there? I certainly have, on many occasions, and feeling that lack or even emptiness of inspiration and creativity is not pleasant when all we want to do is make a little magic.
Your Image - Maximize Your Landscapes - Add Someone! (preview)
We’ve all seen amazing landscape images; they’re moody, dramatic, captivating, and the descriptive list goes on. Personally, I will forever refrain from the much, much too-often-used word “breathtaking” (sorry, just a personal pet peeve). Nevertheless, when we’re out in the field — or mountains, or valley or… well, you get it — we’re all trying to bring home the best images we can.
RSPA President’s Note - April 2016
Spring is in the air—that means daffodils, warmer weather, and… security. Wait—security? Really, isn’t that a concern for all of us year-round? Yes—I would say it is, but given the higher level of interest and engagement in recent months—I’d venture to say security may be THE hottest topic in the industry this season. Recently, I spent several days at the NCC dealer meeting. PCI, EMV, and Liability were the focus of many of the conversations that took place there.
RSPA President’s Note - February 2016
The saying is March comes in like a lion, but I think RSPA has accelerated not just the success of our members, but also the pace of this year, as it feels like January came barreling in like a herd in full stampede. We’ve just returned from INSPIRE® 2016, where we spent 4 days in San Diego with over 150 executives from the ecosystem.

RSPA Presidents Note Looking Back At 2015
In the spirit of this issue, in which we focus on looking back at the past year, it is the perfect juncture for our CEO to look back at the year, through the RSPA lens. It is that we have been reinforcing existing and securing new strategic partnerships that make a difference for our members.
RSPA President’s Note Sales Information And Resources A Look Ahead To INSPIRE
RSPA President's Note: Sales Information And Resources, A Look Ahead To INSPIRE I was thrilled when the staff approached me with the idea of an issue of connect dedicated to sales. Though I wondered, how could we fit relevant, meaningful information on such a broad topic into just one issue? Well it seems we have done just that in the October/November 2015 issue.
Sales (R)evolution Lessons Learned From The Finance Industry
I consider myself a lifelong learner. I enjoy reading about other industries, approaches, and people as I think there is much to be learned by how others approach their situations. I spent the bulk of my career in the financial services industry; and, as I consider the challenges our industry is currently experiencing, I believe we can extrapolate some key learnings from the evolution of financial services. Back in the 1950s insurance was sold door-to-door.
