Findings In this cohort study of 9037 independent singleton pregnancies, screening PlGF level less than 100 pg/mL was associated with 79.4-fold increased likelihood of early preterm birth.
Phenotypes of maternal vascular malperfusion placental pathology and adverse pregnancy outcomes: A retrospective cohort study
1 INTRODUCTION Maternal vascular malperfusion (MVM) is the most common pathological diagnosis of the placenta found following delivery in the context of pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction (FGR) and potentially avoidable stillbirth.1, 2 The current standard for the diagnosis of placental MVM pathology was established in 2014 by a Placental Workshop Group meeting in Amsterdam ( known as the Amsterdam Criteria), and uses a standardised sampling protocol with specific diagnostic criteria.3...
Diplodia twig canker (Diplodia gallae) of northern red oak (Quercus rubra) in the northeastern United States
The 2015–2018 outbreak of spongy moth (Lymantria dispar) in southern New England initiated a severe oak decline and mortality event. While defoliation was a primary driver, increased secondary pest and pathogen activity contributed to decline and death. Following this large defoliation event, Diplodia was frequently recovered from northern red oaks (Quercus rubra) with serious outbreaks of twig cankering.
Intrinsic OXPHOS limitations underlie cellular bioenergetics in leukemia
Abstract Currently there is great interest in targeting mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) in cancer. However, notwithstanding the targeting of mutant dehydrogenases, nearly all hopeful ‘mito-therapeutics’ cannot discriminate cancerous from non-cancerous OXPHOS and thus suffer from a limited therapeutic index.

An honest ‘about me’
My name is Kelsey McLaughlin. I am a staff writer for The Paris News. I studied at the University of North Texas. I plan to continue my education and hope to one day work as an attorney. I repeat it like a mantra. This seems to be my go-to answer when someone asks me who I am, where I’m going and what I want out of life. kA 4=2DDlQAaQmqFE 2D H:E9 2== @7 FD[ E96C6 :D D@ >F49 >@C6] %@52J[ x’> 2 H9:C=H:?5 @7 6>@E:@?] {:<6 E96 C2:?
Last show for sisters
The Davidson Sisters gospel group will sing one last show Sunday after 42 years of performing. The Davidson Sisters, who are all Lamar County natives, got started at an early age. Coming from a long line of musicians, including a grandfather who was in the then well-known Wes Walker Band, the sisters were all heavily influenced and decided to go into the industry, also. kAm“x? Rape statistics shocking
The Dallas Morning News recently shared an article stating 15 percent of undergraduate women at the University of Texas have been raped. More shocking than the statistic were the comments written under the article. What were they wearing, some asked. There’s no way that statistic is accurate, they said. That’s what happens when you drink, others echoed. This is rape culture. kA 4=2DDlQAaQm“x7 D@ >2?J >:==:@?D @7 H@>6?
Treat addiction like illness
My father has struggled the majority of his life from SAD — Substance Abuse Disorder. But it was only recently I was able to correctly term his condition. I grew up in a time that described my father’s illness as recurrent “choice,” a “flaw” in his person. Addiction. Someone who had once been respected by many fell from the grace of society and was ostracized by it. This was extremely harmful. It caused a significant increase in the depression he was experiencing.

Honoring black history
Twenty-eight days are all that we have in the month of February, and I just don’t think that’s enough. Why? Because February is Black History Month, and there are more things to be celebrated, remembered, revered, respected and professed in response to black history than could possibly be done in only 28 days. In fact, I think celebrating Black History Month may be more important now than ever.

New program sparks memory with music
Stillhouse Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center is paving the way in alternative therapy in Paris. Recently chosen as one of few other facilities to implement the Music and Memory Program founded by Dan Cohen in 2006, Stillhouse is using music therapy to improve the quality of life of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. The program originated when the founder had a thought he may one day end up in a nursing home and if so, he would want to take his favorite music with him.
Welcome back, Mr. Mayer
If you haven’t heard yet, John Mayer is back. This may not be news to you if you were lukewarm or disappointed with his last two albums which both were a far cry from his “Continuum” days. But, I’ll be the first to say welcome back, Mr. Mayer. His new album, “The Search for Everything,” which is being released four songs at a time each month, is highlighting the best of his work throughout the past 16 years. kA 4=2DDlQAaQm k^Am kA 4=2DDlQAaQmkDA2? 4=2DDlQD`Qmx?
Kennel Cough - theparisnews.com: News
The dog days could be over soon concerning kennel cough in Paris. The Lamar County Humane Society approached the city council asking them to act on an ordinance that would allow them to vaccinate strays brought in by animal control immediately instead of 72 hours after they’re brought in, as is now required. The 72 hours the humane association is required to wait excludes weekends and can only be counted during business hours.
The latest: Council discusses old bank
Update: AT&T has requested a temporary restraining order to stop the city of Paris from turning off power at the former First National Bank building. According to the order signed by Judge Will Biard, AT&T states the reason for the TRO to be that its customers within five miles of the building will lose emergency cell service such as 9-1-1, Amber Alerts, weather and public safety notices.
Being aware of ableism
Ableism is something that I was unfamiliar with for a long time. What is it? How do I recognize it? Ableism, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is the discrimination or prejudice against individuals with disabilities. Nearly 1 in 5 people in the United States has a disability, according to a 2012 Census Bureau report.

Denying women health care
If you’ve been paying attention to state news, you’ll have found out that on Tuesday, Dec. 20, after more than a year of delays, Texas is officially removing Planned Parenthood from the state’s Medicaid program. This move could and will affect thousands of low-income women throughout the state. “State health officials on Tuesday delivered a final legal notice to defund the organization from the Medicaid program through which it provides family planning and women’s health services to the poor.
Reverse racism isn’t real
Take a seat, everyone. This one might be more inflammatory than you’re anticipating. But I think it’s time we had this conversation. It’s about racism — or rather, reverse racism. You see, there are so many people that I encounter who are convinced that racism toward white people is real, but... it isn’t. Before you get angry, let me explain. Racism, especially in the U.S. is institutionalized. How, you ask? In an article for The Daily Dot, S.E. Smith helps us understand.

Domestic violence doesn’t take a holiday
While this season is generally a merry one, domestic violence doesn’t take a holiday. Domestic violence is an issue to be mindful of year-round. Unfortunately, it’s often put to the wayside and discussed only in hushed tones that would suggest it’s something shameful and dirty. The data surrounding the issue suggests there is no peak through the holiday season, but even if there isn’t a rise in violence, it’s still happening, according to experts. kAm!2C:D !@=:46 r9:67 q@3 wF?5=6J D2:5 E92E :?

Face-to-face or on the phone
I’m a millennial. There, I said it. So as you can imagine, Thanksgiving with my family (while delightful) included a few directives to put my phone down and communicate. In my opinion, cell phones, social media, texting, etc... they have increased our ability to communicate. So I’d like to offer a different perspective, one in which communication isn’t a lost art – just a changing one. When I was in school, I studied communication. I loved it.
