Chatbots can be a gold mine, a mini side hustle or a waste of time. Like everything you get back what you put in. Hopefully this post will inspire and put some money in your pocket along the way. We started cashbot.ai in earnest over the summer, but enabled self service in late October, so I consider us to be at our 45 day mark right about now.
There’s no question that chatbots are big business. Facebook Messenger hit 100,000 bots this April (a 3x increase since the previous September), and research from Digitas LBi found that one in three Americans would be willing to make a purchase from a chatbot. As if that wasn’t enough to convince you, 51% of people say that a business needs to be available at all times, 45.8% would rather contact a business through messaging than via an email and 49.4% would rather use messaging than a phone call.
That’s right, 50,000 interactions in the first week. A year ago I worked on a project where, in 6 months, our team planned, designed, tested, broke, fixed, broke again, fixed again, and finally deployed a bot that in one week interacted with 50,000 unique users. I won’t get into bot details nor where you can find it, but I will share a couple observations I think can only be made when you look at the data produced from 50,000 chats captured in 7 days.
