The biggest mistake that most boxing pundits and fans made regarding Itauma ..
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Ken Ashcroft, . … was to repeatedly say before the fight, what fantastic boxing IQ Itauma had. it was like boxing IQ only meant you had to have a great selection of punches and the ability to effortlessly throw punches in fast combinations and from different angles. Never mind being able to simply pace yourself as the rounds go by or able to adapt to different situations as they arise during a fight.
How does Hrgovic’s chin rate against the best in Heavyweight history?
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Ken Ashcroft, . Possibly the best chin in boxing today, how would you rate Hrgovic when compared to all the most durable and strongest chins in heavyweight history? Top 10? Lower or ever overrated? Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Ken Ashcroft, . Both wanted to be the next Joe Frazier but neither proved up to the job. Who would win in a match-up between the two? Gotta go with Smokin' Bert. Before the drugs ruined him, he was at least a legitimate top 10 contender. And Bert can definitely crack with the right hand. (admittedly, I am a bit biased, but, I honestly think Cooper would win this one) ^why do I sense bias with you[emoji4] Marvis should win.
Holyfield was only 205 when he stood toe to toe with Riddick Bowe
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by InMemoryofJakeLamotta, . Zurdo was 200 a few nights ago, only 5 pounds less than Holyfield when Holyfield took Bowe to war. Roberto Duran vs Juan Roldan
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Ken Ashcroft, . Who wins this middleweight battle? Jel, Richard M Murrieta and Jamal Perkins like this. Good match-up. Just to **** people off, I'll pick Roldan. JabbaTheGut, BoxxyMcBoxface, Richard M Murrieta and 2 others like this. It's a bit of a tough one but I'll go roldan by unanimous Dec.
Who was the most unbeatable at a weight class?
What fighters do you believe are unbeatable if they stuck to a certain weight class? For me, I have 3 fighters to mind: Floyd Mayweather- 130. He was lightning quick and he had knockout power at that age. Roberto Duran- 135. A pitbull at lightweight Roy Jones Jr.- 168. He was so good at this class he had to move up in weight to get a decent opponent. Bonus round: Hagler- 154. If he fought in the modern era with day before weigh ins, He would be a Jr Welterweight.

Best/Greatest Boxer-Punchers?
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by George Crowcroft, . So best, as in who did it better than anyone else and Greatest, as in who is the greatest fighter you'd class as a boxer puncher. Also if you wouldn't mind explaining what you'd class as a boxer puncher I'd appreciate it. So name em... A boxer puncher is... Someone who can combine both boxing and punching / slugging / aggression. No need to complicate it, though it can get naunced.
Sam Langford vs Evander Holyfield
Trouble is, if Langford was that detiorated by that point, then Will's resume falls apart, since McVea was generally losing to Langford around that time. Wills was pretty green when Langford first KOed him too, though not so much the second time. Langford was sliding, but not as much as you're making out, I think it was more of a passing the torch type thing, with Langford's time ending as Wills's began. Langford was more shot in their later fights, but he wasn't actually winning those.
Tell me something I don't know about Patsy Cardiff
A few facts about his fight with Sullivan, that Adam has uncovered: Cardiff seems to have been well regarded as a contender, and he was granted a 25/75 split. The police insisted on 6oz gloves being used, which were unusually large for the day. The under card started at 8AM, with the main event taking place at 10AM. Sullivan's manager was sufficiently confident of him winning, that he was booked to fight an exhibition the following night.
Greatest English fighter ever?
If Wales is considered as part of England (and I'm genuinely unsure of that and not trying to cause any angst to anyone) then I'd give Jimmy Wilde and Freddy Welsh a shout out as well as Joe Calzaghe. Otherwise Jack Kid Berg deserves a mention alongside Benn, Eubank, Lennox Lewis, Ted Lewis, etc etc... England has produced far more than its fair share of fantastic fighters for its size.
Holyfield-Tyson in 1991 or Mayweather-Pacquiao in 2010
I was going to ask what was the bigger letdown delay, but I figured that was an easy choice as Holyfield-Tyson 1 was a pretty good fight (although I think winning 1996 Fight of the Year was ridiculous) and Mayweather-Pacquiao was pretty boring. My personal guess is that a 2010 matchup would play out similar, but at a faster pace and better fight, and better for the sport. You rarely get the two best P4P fighters facing each other.

Tell me about Ossie Ocasio...
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Bronze Tiger, . I’m planning on watching some of his fights over the weekend. What are your thoughts of him as a fighter? A cruiserweight pioneer. Good fighter but nothing special. I got to watch them close up confuse, bemuse and frustrate a novice (as a pro) Lennox Lewis for eight rounds. Cute was the word. He maybe shared a round, but was never in trouble and I suspect Lewis missed more punches in that fight, than he did in any other.
Sonny Liston vs George Benton sparring
InMemoryofJakeLamotta said: ↑ I heard a sparring story in which Liston, either right before or right after he became the heavyweight champion, he sparred top middle weight contender George Benton. The story was, Benton was moving so fast that Liston went whole rounds without being able to land anything, while Benton was landing about everything he threw. Liston started to get angry and really trying to hurt Benton, so Benton's manager stopped the session.
Ali vs Spinks - Who would have won a deciding rubber match?
If Spinks was to get into good shape he would've beaten Ali pretty decisively maybe by a late stoppage. If he didn't it Ali might be able to squeeze out a decision. This would be the worst heavyweight trilogy next Holyfield vs Ruiz. Last edited: Apr 20, 2019

Prime Evander Holyfield vs Prime Lennox Lewis
As far as Holyfield is concerned, i would say his prime years have to be 1988-1993. He didn't have one punch ko power, he was not intimidating at first glance but he had the heart and spirit of a warrior, he would never back down, he would always be at you, would be capable of thinking on his feet and changing his approach during the fight, he had very good handspeed and a granite chin. His never give up attitude certainly would intimidate any fighter in history.
Fury & Usyk aren't fighting each other
spravedlivylev said: ↑ Lol. What's next, you reveal he has always been a plodder? Give it a rest with this "elephant leaning on him". Fury will never be able to lean on him, he is too slow for that. No matter how many times you come up with this nonsense, the fact remains: Usyk is quicker, smarter and more agile than Fury. Always has been, always will be. You can't lean on someone you can't catch.
Tyson Fury was totally right on one thing about the Ngannou matchup..
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Ken Ashcroft, . It was definitely a ‘Game changer’! A phrase he had cryptically tweeted several times before the official announcement of the matchup. It has indeed been proven to be a game changing matchup but unfortunately for him the biggest game changing effect has been to his own reputation within the boxing world and people now ridiculing him on his abilities. I hope the huge paycheque was worth it.
is lucas browne the greatest overachiever (at least in modern times)???
sure, he was on roids when he beat chagaev…...but think About it: the guy was a Rugby Player and a bouncer. he didnt have an amteur Background, just had a few fights in mma. turned pro at 30. he is one of those typical guys you have Walking into gyms worldwide: Bodybuilder types that work as bouncers and think that cause they are tough on the street that they can fight. then you put them in with a guy half their size….…...and they get absolutely tooled!! usually, the dont come back.

2018 Anthony Joshua vs. Current Anthony Joshua
He's the same fighter. Ever since he stepped up and fought Wladimir Klitschko and Carlos Takam people have been coming up with this "gun-shy" stuff. Look, AJ isn't stupid. He knows he can't blast everyone out like they are Gary ****ing Cornish. He was never that good. Even a guy like Carlos Takam is better than Charles "Here For a Payday" Martin, hence the different outcome. As soon as AJ stepped up to legitimate opposition, he couldn't just wade in and blast guys out.

Andy Ruiz vs Luis Ortiz for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world?
Could happen. Ortiz was certainly given more chance of beating Wilder in a rematch than Ruiz was of upsetting Joshua. At this moment it’s likely that there will be a rematch later on in the year between Ruiz and Joshua but it’s possible that Joshua might not want to jump straight back into the ring in a rematch in just a few short months after, in the end, a fairly comprehensive defeat.
