West Coast to East Coast Trip
Discussion in 'Marinas & Waypoints' started by Keith C, . Without going into too much detail, I'm seeking all experts in travelling through the Panama Canal. I'm sure this will spark another discussion, but I am interested in purchasing a vessel that is in California and need to get it to Alabama. It's 125 feet in length and 25 feet beam. Estimated to be around 180 tons (steel hull). Reached out to a couple of yacht transport services and they want more than the boat is worth.
cautionary tale - broken davit cable
Wanted to share a cautionary tale about a series of events that ultimately led to our davit cable failing while under load while lowering the dingy into the water. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the dinghy only fell about a foot. But very scary situation that could have been very damaging or even deadly in a different scenario. Background: the davit is a 600 lb rated UMT davit/bow crane with a dutton lainson winch. The winch is spooled with 25' of 3/16" stainless cable.
HCB 53 Suenos Chaseboat On The Rocks In St. Barths
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by Yacht News, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. An HCB 53 Suenos used as a chaseboat to a superyacht that was at the time in St Barths has impacted into rocks at Anse des Cayes Bay in Saint Barthélemy. Six persons were injured. It is believed the chaseboat belongs to superyacht "Loon". They didn’t just hit some rocks, as in a reef offshore… they hit the island itself. How the hell can this happen?
Battery help in Ft Lauderdale
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by gcsi, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Just replaced two banks of 8d batteries (Deka) in December. One of the Deka batteries is defective on port bank so must be replaced, GEERRRRRRR. I’m relatively certain Deka will warranty, but unfortunately, I’m stuck doing the dirty deed! Can anyone recommend a service provider in Ft. Lauderdale that can accomplish this task on short notice?

Maine shipyard recommendation (fin repair)
Discussion in 'Stabs, Tabs & Gyros' started by gcsi, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. I’m in Maine (Robinhood / Georgetown) and have damaged a stabilizer fin. In need of a yard to haul and asses damage (75’ Hatteras MY). It’s about time to migrate southward so I’m thinking of heading to Portland. Anyone have good yard experience in the realm? Haven’t used them myself, but Portland Yacht Service has good reputation and largest travel-lift in Maine.

Domestic Oceanair blinds
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by Pascal, . Does anyone knows who sells Oceanair blinds in sofl? They have a unique way of folding when retracting to accommodate odd shape windows and can also be mounted on slanted forward windows. Looks like the Oceanair is brand nr 1234 bought out but the Evil Empire aka Dometic but their website doesn’t show a sofl dealer for blinds. Here's all I've got. I dealt with them in 2018. Good luck on your search. . .
OUPV/Six-pack Captain’s License Online
Capt Ralph said: ↑ You may be ahead of the game if you have gone thru the flying test. Government questions are different from everyday language. And with your flying ticket, you have been trained and up there a few hours. Many YF kids fly and float. Some aspects of vectors (set & drift). Pre-flight is always a great part of a float plan. Brief, fly (boat) the brief and de-brief are still the same, just more relaxed with lots more pictures of smiles in the never ending de-brief.
Pool type anchors
I thought I had started a thread before but can’t find it. not happy with the 200 lbs Poole anchors that are on the 110’ Lazzara i ve been for the last 6 months. We didnt anchor much in Miami but now in the Exumas we anchor 90% of the times. The 200 pounders just don’t cut it as they require twice the scope I used to need with the Bruce’s I ve used in the past in the same locations. No big deal empty anchorages but a problem in more busy spots.
The Corinth Canal
That's a scary looking canal when it's right. Making notes to take the long way around.

Great Lakes Haul Options
Did you ever sort this out? The Multi Hull Club in the portlands, Toronto, picks up cats w their crane. We picked up 4 boats this winter w a crane at Port Credit Harbour Marina and this crane service gets cheaper as we divide the cost by more boats. There's a Conolift somewhere in Lake Erie on the Canadian side but I still have not located it. I'm currently looking for a catamaran haul-out somewhere between Detroit and Georgian Bay for a Lagoon 42.
| Feadship | 75.00M | "ARROW" ex Hull 703 | 2019 |
Feadship has launched their newest luxury yacht. This morning the 75-meter hull 703, now known as "ARROW" was towed out of the shed into the open. The design inside and out is by H2 Yacht Design. Being launched this late in the year, she will naturally be handed over to her owner in 2020.

That small tanker was, because of age and size, most likely a single-hull ship. The whole rear hull behind the cargo spaces a single compartment without any watertight bulkheads and watertight doors. One hole in this rusty old and beaten hull and there it went to the bottom. As soon as the engine room was flooded, no more pumps were working. I hope their was no pollution caused by this collision.
How much vacation time?
I'd listen to the Captain. Let me explain my attitude toward crew vacation first. Good crew is hard to keep because once they get beyond the excitement of cruising to different places, it's a job that keeps them away from home and prevents developing a real home life and relationships. I don't know the size of your crew, but in my world, if the owner and wife are on 15-20 weeks per year, then I'd try to let the crew rotate and share the remaining time with half on and half off.

Fault code Volvo Penta D4
Hi I got a fault code on my Volvo Penta D4 300 Hp 2012 model 200 running hours: MID 128 PSID 53 FMI 0 The engine only gets 1600 Rpm. The engine is also a bit harder to get started. Can it be fuel pressure sensor or MPROP ? Have anyone had the same issue? I also got an Inactive fault code. How do I delete that? See attached pictures from EVC panel. As Hohum says, that really is an anti Paparazzi deck layout. A lot of open air deck spaces not visible from sea level, only from the air. And I bet, their will be some laser guns (sorry, pointer of course ) waiting for areal drones. And far morepowerful ones than I have encountered in Palma. It would be interesting to see the water removal facilities (scuppers) on these lower forward decks, as required by class.
Camper and Nicholson - Maid Marion - where is she now?
Good afternoon, I have been directed to this site as I am doing some research into a yacht which was made for my wife's great grandfather. Basically we were wondering if she still existed. She was built in 1938 by Camper and Nicholson and originally called Maid Marion. It was subsequently requisitioned during WW2. In 1947 was sold to Augustus J.Newman and re-named JAGUSY. In 1950 she was sold to the Emperor of Viet Nam and re-named HUONG GIANG.
Malahne - 1937 Camper & Nicholsons 53.95m motor yacht
The best thing any owner can do for a boat is to use it. Sitting in a garage somewhere is tantamount to operating a non profit museum. Why put a boat into a museum when you can enjoy the pride of the use and ownership? Every boat requires maintenance. Any investment you don't make this year into your brand new boat is simply depreciating deferred maintenance down the road. 54GT versus the ride of my 53c? Lmao. Go run a 54GT into 10-12 footers at 20 knots for several hours and then get back to me.
Looking for info on classic yacht "Desire"
I have been following this one for a while and have a few things to post. Mystic Seaport does have the ship plans for the Desire: DESIRE: Motorboat, Design #143B SHIPS PLANS 1912-04; 1912-09 6 sheets of plans for 90 ft. motorboat, DESIRE (built 1912), design #143B by Cox & Stevens, Inc. Dates on plans range from 04-1912 to 09-1912. SP.1975.1.34.56 The listing below is from the 1917 Lloyds Register, this shows that 5 years after it is built is owned by Irving Cox, of Cox and Stevens.
Motor Yacht Windsong II (trumpy)
"Windsong II" originally "Rumak III" O/N 270489 was built in 1955, Trumpy contract #372 is a 79' Cruiser style MY. According to USCG Doc. records she is currently named "Annabelle" and hails from Islesboro, Maine. Former names (not necessarily in order) include: Rumak III, Bettco, Windsong II, Entre Deux Mers, Iliana, La Contessa, Oz, Oshea, Windsong, Hissar II, and Osceola. This old gal seems to have had a somewhat colorful history.

Anyone own any Exotic cars?
I'm not sure you could consider these exotic.... however, I certainly do enjoy speed! Besides, I just can't justify owning exotic cars like Porsche, Ferrari, or Ford GT's that sit in the garage or only get out for a spin at 70 or 80 MPH on rare occasions. Anyway, here's a few pics of of my pavement toys.

Unbridled Sighting I justed returned from Charleston SC to visit my daughter and also ran into a friend and business acquaintance who has a 77 foot Viking Cruiser. While hanging out at the Charleston City Marina, Unbridled came into port. What a sight to see!!! All the pictures that are posted on the web and stories are correct. If you need to see this beauty...head to Charleston SC and along with the view grab some local charm and terrific restaurants. Good Luck!!! John Keesee
Insurance for freelance Captains?
Here's the deal with insurance as I see it. It is necessary in this day and age of litigious society. There are too many people out there that are ready willing and able to prosper off of the appearance of misfortune of others. I have it to not only protect myself, but to protect the interest of the owners I deal with. When you are skippering a multi million dollar vessel you are a target of plying eyes.
What are YOU doing?
Kelly, since I bought the Canon G9, I never use my smaller or the bigger DSLR cameras. It is really good. This morning I have to go to my mothers house and repair her water pump, in the gale winds, then back here to draw up some remaining things for our 34-footer in build, like the dashboard. I wanted to postpone this to see what´s new in plotters and now I know. The boat should be finished in late October...

Hi, Don't be fooled , there is plenty of room inside the hulls. The CAT Plate you can see is the fwd end of the Main Engine Plate Cooler, The genset engine and alternator are between the photographer and the front of the main engine. I would say the forward engine room picture was taken from the same position but facing the other way around.
Pacific Mariner owners
Pacific Mariner is a top quality boat designed to perform at decent speeds and provide comfort. Think miniature Westport as Jack Edson, son or Orin Edson actually founded Pacific Mariner and subsequently when Orin bought Westport, they were merged. The PM65 is a bit dated style wise but I wish it was still built as I do the 85. We do own an 85.
JFA Yachts-- m/y Bystander
Thank you for welcoming me and for answering my questions. I have only just gotten interested in yachts but I have been a big ocean liner buff for years. It fascinates me to see what new things can be done with the same type of hull used 80+ years ago. Are there any other "classic-modern" yachts out there that I can check out? So far the modern built ones I have seen are the Bystander, Nero and Sycara.
