Kendra Pierre-Louis’s Biography

Kendra's work focuses on the relationship between humans and the environment. For example, too much time spent indoors harms eye development, and that a stroll through the woods can lower blood pressure, and improve concentration? At the same time, some interactions with nature are unpleasant as anyone who has ever encountered a mosquito knows. Similarly, the blame for species extinction, the loss of healthy fertile land, forest destruction, erosion of fresh water supplies, and, yes, climate change can, all be laid upon humanity’s doorstep. Kendra's work balances investigating the problems with identifying solutions.

Kendra has worked for the United Nations Environment Programme's Convention on Biological Diversity, the consulting and strategic planning firm Terrapin Bright Green, the New York Botanical Gardens, and the American Museum of Natural History.

Her writing has appeared in Newsweek and the Earth Island Journal among other publications. Kendra holds a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University, and an M.A. in Sustainable Development with a focus on Policy Analysis and Advocacy from the SIT Graduate Institute. She has spoken publicly to the DC Eco-Woman, the University of Oregon, and has appeared on C-SPAN.
