Determination of N‐centered stereochemistry in N22‐methylated chlorophyll‐a derivatives and their epimer‐dependent optical spectra
1 INTRODUCTION Chlorophylls (Chls) are the most abundant pigments in phototrophs and function in light-harvesting and energy-migrating antennas and electron-transferring reaction centers.1, 2 Chl molecules are stereochemically pure compounds within photosynthetic organisms.3, 4 Specifically, Chl-a is found in oxygenic phototrophs including higher plants, algae, and cyanobacteria,5-7 and its molecular structure is illustrated in the left drawing of Figure 1.
Photoinduced dual bond rotation of a nitrogen-containing system realized by chalcogen substitution - Nature Chemistry
Abstract Photoinduced concerted multiple-bond rotation has been proposed in some biological systems. However, the observation of such phenomena in synthetic systems, in other words, the synthesis of molecules that undergo photoinduced multiple-bond rotation upon photoirradiation, has been a challenge in the photochemistry field. Here we describe a chalcogen-substituted benzamide system that exhibits photoinduced dual bond rotation in heteroatom-containing bonds.

A near-infrared fluorescent long-chain fatty acid toward optical imaging of cardiac metabolism in living mice
A near-infrared fluorescent long-chain fatty acid toward optical imaging of cardiac metabolism in living mice Takashi Jin, Kenji Monde, Yuta Murai, Setsuko Tsuboi, Mutmainah Mutmainah, Ken-ichi Hirano, Mohamad Zarif Mohd Zubir and Mahadeva M.M. Swamy Abstract Non-invasive fatty acid (FA) metabolic imaging is crucial for the evaluation of cardiac function in the heart.
Stereostructural Analysis of Flexible Oxidized Fatty Acids by VCD Spectroscopy
Stereostructural Analysis of Flexible Oxidized Fatty Acids by VCD Spectroscopy Tohru Taniguchi, Naka Ida, Takuya Kitahara, Davidson Obinna Agbo and Kenji Monde Abstract Oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids produces various oxidized lipids whose absolute configuration (AC) and conformations are difficult to analyze due to their flexibility.
Shortwave-Infrared Fluorescent Molecular Imaging Probes Based on π-Conjugation Extended Indocyanine Green
Recently, shortwave-infrared (SWIR) fluorescence imaging for the optical diagnostics of diseases has attracted much attention as a new noninvasive imaging modality. For this application, the development of SWIR molecular imaging probes with high biocompatibility is crucial. Although many types of biocompatible SWIR fluorescent probes based on organic dyes have been reported, there are no SWIR-emitting molecular imaging probes that can be used for the detection of specific biomolecules in vivo.
