Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Reporter for a small-town daily

How is social media changing news?

It's making it more widely distributed and allowing people to bump into news where they already are. Fewer people specifically seek out news.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

J. Jonah Jameson

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Too many to name, but I need my Mac.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes. I wrote and sold advertising.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Work hard. Never be afraid of any story.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Anything via email where they pretend to know me.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Bed

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I can't pick a favorite. I read tons!
