Keri Mitchell is a community journalist in Dallas, Texas whose nerdy passions include color-coding Excel spreadsheets full of FOIA data and rifling through library archive collections to unearth historical gems. Mostly, though, she loves getting to know people and understanding what they care about.
She recently became the executive director of Dallas Free Press, refocusing Advocate Media's charitable arm as a news nonprofit that launched community journalism efforts in South Dallas and West Dallas, historically disinvested neighborhoods with diverse audiences. The news nonprofit also is working to form a local journalism collaborative to tackle complex citywide issues.
