Have you ever used a typewriter?
I am going to admit it. I was using memory typewriters before the computer age in university. (The re-type-your-paragraphs machines.)
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Not journalists, but could be: Atwood. Sci-fi: Heinlein or Asimov. I think most creatively engaging was Nick Bantock. Roy Henry Vickers.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Documenting fascinating people and stories, and accommodating the public and the arts through dedicated service.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
That guy that always tells you not to worry, he always says to, "just forget it." He puts it in hilarious terms related to important events
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Preferably early mornings 9 am or afternoon 4 pm and best by email only. Please contact me by phone with work offers so we can connect.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
H2 Zoom, iPhone Pro Max 13, Canon Rebel, Otter, Word, Adobe, and Windows 10 desktop computer. Audacity for radio.

Why did you become a journalist?
Addiction to documentation started when I was 13 with a makeshift recording studio with 2 dual cassette players (one shiny red) for tracks.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No. After IQ tests at age 9 in Toronto I was one of three children chosen by the school system for special creative writing/music classes.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The radio writing I did on Eleanor Collins when she had not yet been re-discovered by Canadians in younger age groups, also She-Jazz.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
What where how who when, why, past, now future...it is about the form. As with music composing you need to have forethought. Structure-sketch
When's the best time to pitch you?
In the morning 8-10 am or late nights when when most potential pitchers are asleep.
What's your favorite drink?

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Writing jazz guitar music or composing. I enjoy relaxing in my garden in the summer and working my film project.

'The Discourse', 'DownBeat,' 'All About Jazz,' and "Canadian Musician.' 'Canadian Antique Phonograph Newsletter, the arts, health, history.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That we can cover all events.
