Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

"My background is in business and finance, running bookkeepingpackages.co.uk, which gave me a grounding in how businesses actually operate. That commercial perspective directly informs how I cover AI at LiveAIWire, where I launched as technology correspondent to report on how artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, work and everyday life.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

A what?

How is social media changing news?

It has compressed the gap between event and publication to near zero, which is both the opportunity and the problem. Speed without verification is just noise. At LiveAIWire I use social media to spot developing stories but never publish until the primary source is confirmed.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Lois Lane, Clark Kent and Peter Parker

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To take complex data and research and turn it into something readable and understandable for everyone, explaining why it matters clearly enough that the people affected can act on it.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#AITakingOurJobs — meanwhile the AI kept confidently telling me the wrong train times and my phone failed its update for the third night running.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email, Don't be shy

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Claude AI for research and drafting, Google Search Console and Ahrefs for SEO and site health monitoring, Rank Math for on-page optimisation

What's your favorite social network?

Linkedin

Who do you wish followed you?

AI researchers, policy makers, technology editors and anyone trying to make sense of how artificial intelligence is changing the world faster than most people realise.

Why did you become a journalist?

I became a journalist because I enjoy explaining complex subjects in a way that ordinary people can understand. My background in business and technology led me to spend a great deal of time researching emerging trends, particularly in artificial intelligence and digital innovation

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

It was not really a thing in the UK 1989...not for the cool kids anyway.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Find a beat you genuinely care about and go deeper than anyone else. Read primary sources, not summaries of summaries.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time via liveaiwire@gmail.com or through the contact form at liveaiwire.com/contact. I cover AI news daily so timely pitches on breaking developments, original research, or expert commentary are always welcome.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Honestly, none ye, LiveAIWire is a growing publication and I would love to change that. You have my contact details I am waiting patiently.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Any pitch that starts with 'our AI solution is disrupting the space' and contains no data, no named sources and no actual news. If you cannot tell me specifically what has changed and why it matters today, it is not a story.

What's your favorite drink?

Beer

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

On my phone or thinking about my computer.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

TechCrunch, BBC News, Wired, The Verge, MIT Technology Review, Reuters.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That AI is purely a technology story. The most important developments in artificial intelligence are happening in healthcare, law, education, employment and democracy. The tech is the mechanism, not the story.
