Yes, I typed my college essays on an electric typewriter. I don't miss it, but still get nostalgic when I see old models in shops.

Why did you become a journalist?
I feel alive and inspired when I listen to someone share their story. Then challenged to create a compelling narrative that moves readers.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, all four years! I covered sports--I was also a runner and high-jumper for the H.S. track team.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Two related stories that I wrote a few years ago for a local publication on migrant farm workers--covering housing and healthcare.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Never turn a story down. Always carry a notebook. Find some kind of Zen in transcribing--or learn to write really fast, legible shorthand.
