Hope is not a plan: Get ready for SBA's new size standards now
As of Aug. 20, when the Small Business Administration sprung their new size standards on industry, we’ve been inundated with articles and LinkedIn posts decrying the increases. I’ve read hundreds of posts that suggest all parties should submit comments through the Federal Register in the hope that SBA might withdraw or adjust their proposal. And so far, that pretty much captures the sophistication of the available advice. To be clear, you should submit comments.
Kevin Cooley: The Wizard of Awe
Kevin Cooley has a long legacy considering light and fire, in fact, in addition to his fine art photography career, he photographs fires for major publications. So what happens when the person who documents fire, becomes the documented? Cooley’s own home was destroyed in the the Altadena fires as seen on his instagram.

September 2018 | Harper's Magazine
Having already determined in Citizens United that corporations are people, the Supreme Court decided in May that people, at least working people of vulnerable status, can be prevented from acting as corporations. In three consolidated cases involving disputed wage claims, the Court ruled that employers can force workers to accept individual arbitration instead of joining together in class-action lawsuits.
Traffic: How Air Traffic Control Works
At any given moment, on any given morning, there are roughly 6,000 planes on their way to somewhere, from somewhere, over American airspace. Getting them safely down to the ground will depend upon the efforts of a small group of controllers who, nearly without fail, get the job done despite long hours, grim working conditions, and ancient technology. Jeanne Marie Laskas journeys to the tower at LaGuardia Airport in New York City to find out how it all happens.
Take Refuge - Photographs and text by Kevin Cooley | LensCulture
“Take Refuge” explores human presence and human intervention in the landscape, ranging from rudimentary actions—like building fires, marking a path in a snowy landscape, and taking shelter in caves—to more sophisticated circumstances, such as a very powerful scientific laser beam piercing into the night sky. The Classical forces of nature—earth, fire, wind, and water—are presented here in contention with one another or against a human figure.
See the Most Expensive, Extravagant Mansion in L.A.
High above Bel Air, Nile Niami is looking down on the tiny mansions of mere millionaires as he stands on a plywood platform that will soon be the roof deck of the house he's selling for $500 million. When you expect a half billion dollars, everything has to scale up, including the views, and from this hilltop, they span 360 degrees—encompassing the San Gabriel Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, and, today, Niami's Rolls-Royce Phantom convertible, parked in the driveway below.
