This much-needed funding is especially important for students and teachers because more than $4 billion is earmarked for teacher salary increases.

As it often does during her visits, the discussion turned to politics. This time, however, was different because she didn't want to talk about national issues. This time she lamented the new Dallas ISD residency requirements because a mutual friend acquired a downtown condo in anticipation of her currently private-schooled child's application to attend Booker T.

At least once a week I get wrangled into a discussion about Dallas ISD, and the recent results of the 2018 City of Dallas Community Survey have my phone and email buzzing. The results show perceptions about DISD are largely unfavorable and don't reflect the recent successes of the strategic initiatives taking place in the district. Only 29 percent of survey respondents were satisfied with Dallas public schools.
