Azumah Nelson vs Edwin Rosario @ 135
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Flo_Raiden, . Nelson fought for a title at 135 once against Pernell Whitaker but was unsuccessful. Instead of facing Whitaker he decides to face Rosario for his belt when he won it against Anthony Jones. Rosario declines a Juan Nazario rematch and agrees to fight Nelson in 1990. Would Nelson have a shot at beating a guy like Rosario to become a 3-weight world champion or would Rosario’s power have been too much for the Professor?
The Ali–Inoki Fight at 50
A very interesting article on one of the weirdest travesti of a fight during Ali's tragic twilight years: The Ali–Inoki Fight at 50 The heavyweight champ, the wrestler, and the origin of mixed martial arts ‘Money is good if you can make it in an honest and clean way,” Muhammad Ali told reporters in Tokyo, en route to Malaysia in June 1975. A reporter had asked the Greatest, the nickname the world heavyweight champion had given himself more than a decade earlier, what money meant to him.
Could any of these go the distance with Joe Louis?
So what does it take to last the distance against Joe Louis? The men who did it seem to have had exceptional durability, combined with an awkward style, or very good defense, combined with mobility. I wouldn't be shocked at someone like Terrell or Bugner doing it.
Top 5 Left Hookers in history?
Mine would go something like this: 1. Sugar Ray Robinson: Precision of Joe Louis, the power of Joe Frazier and the quickness of Roy Jones Jr, easily the best imho. 2. Roy Jones Jr: fastest left hook ever, third most precise behind SRR and Louis but he was very versatile with it, i really liked the jab - left hook to the liver feint he used against James Toney 3.

Antonio Cervantes vs Roberto Duran (140lbs)
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Journeyman92, . This fight could’ve happened I believe in 75. Anyways with 15 rounds to work how does this pan out? In the Duran book (not the autobiography) they wrote that it was a fight that could have happened but they were in no hurry to make as Cervantes was terrific and not enough money for the risk at the time ,,, Titan1, Rope-a-Dope and Kid Bacon like this. Underrated reason why Holmes was the best of his era
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Devon, . Discipline, think about it, Holmes lived the life of a true athlete, sacrifice, there were other decent fighters in that era, but succumbed to their desires, Dokes: Drugs, Pinklon Thomas: Drugs, Cooney: Alcohol, Page: food, Witherspoon: Food.
Cleveland Williams vs Ron Lyle winner gets to fight Joe Louis
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by InMemoryofJakeLamotta, . The Lyle that stopped Shavers fights a prime Big Cat. Who wins this war which will end by KO? Cleveland Williams vs Ron Lyle winner gets to be knocked out by Joe Louis There, I fixed it for you I go with Lyle; not that it truly matters who wins. Prime Louis beats the heck out of both challengers. The winner will be the one spared a Louis beating. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account?
Three very useless trivia facts about...
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Kid Bacon, . Carlos Monzon: - In may 1973 Monzon was in Rome to fight Roy Dale. Just hours before the fight Monzon got news his closest brother had been murdered back in Argentina. The promoters offered to suspend the fight, but Monzon decided to go ahead all the same and won by KO.
Prime Mike Tyson vs the Big 4
The Tyson of 86-88 vs the following: Usyk AJ Deontay Wilder Tyson Fury Everyone is at their best. Could Tyson go 4-0?
Titanium chin contest
In the history of boxing there have been many amazing displays of toughness, but for me these are three classic cases of great boxers who just refused to go down when lesser men would have said good night, displaying pure toughness in incredible fashion. Which one of those three would be the titanium chin? 1) Ali vs Cooper. A lot have been made about Cus' buying time for Ali, ropes stopping his fall, the smelling salts, the bell saving him, etc.
Floyd Patterson Versus Ken Norton
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by ThatOne, . I’ve gone back and forth on this one. Both men were vulnerable to big punchers but I don’t know if either had the type of tools needed to make the other fold. Probably be a good boxing match RulesMakeItInteresting, Richard M Murrieta and ThatOne like this. I like Kenny's size and strength over Floyd's speed and combination punching. Floyd has his moments but Kenny's body attack and pressure grinds Floyd down.
Most powerful heavyweight left hooks: Does Frazier rank high?

Frank Bruno vs Ron Lyle
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by InMemoryofJakeLamotta, . Two big punchers and big men, period. Who wins this one? TBH no one impress me like particularly superior on this match up. Both are decent contenders who never rose to the top. Won some, lost some, and that's it. In this fight I don't see anyone like being able to clearly beat the other one. This truly could go for a draw, or SD .. or maybe a late stoppage. 50 - 50 odds.
Has there ever been any proof that Alis Parkinson's was caused by boxing?
Some additional information: Among observers, questions long swirled about the extent to which Parkinson’s disease versus repeated hits to the head contributed to Muhammad Ali’s progressive tremor and cognitive impairment. Now, three neurologists who provided direct care to the boxing legend describe evidence in a JAMA Neurology viewpoint supporting a primary diagnosis of young-onset Parkinson’s disease over a form of dementia from repetitive head trauma.
Larry Holmes Versus Jerry Quarry
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by ThatOne, . Does Larry win? Does Jerry have a shot? Jerry defeats Gerry, but Gerry maybe pulls an upset on Jerry, you never know with Jerry and Gerry had nights off. On the other side, I am positive Larry blasts Jerry and Gerry. Holmes is a very heavy favorite here. I can’t think of any good reason to favor Quarry. Log in with Facebook Log in with Twitter Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? Most shocking or unexpected events in boxing history
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Jel, . What are the events that you consider the most shocking or unexpected to happen in boxing’s history? It can be anything from upsets, come-from-behind KOs or controversial moments, including out of the ring events. If you can put together your own top 3 events, all the better.
Peak George Foreman V Peak Rocky Marciano
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by ThatOne, . How do you see this battle going? Please discuss. Thank you. Rocky never faced anybody like peak Foreman. I simply don't know how it would turn out and won't pretend to. There is nothing Marciano can do here. It would be like a black bear vs a polar bear. Marciano can't fight backing up, had leaky defense, and would be fighting fire with fire. I see Marciano being launched nearly a foot in the air with the first serious uppercut Foreman lands.
Marciano and the mob... Thoughts?
