REMATCH - The Moderate Voice
by Kim Mooney In my whole life, I have never felt such sleep-deprived, lip-biting, arm-twisting political tension in my country. The other side is not just wrong, but fatally dangerous. Many people feel that we’re being manipulated to stay hateful and divided. It’s exhausting. Every year there’s a confetti flood of articles about how to survive your stress or grief or self-care during the holidays.
“The body has a way of dying:” An embodied understanding of the pursuit of medical aid in dying among terminally ill individuals
Abstract Despite extensive scholarship on clinical and ethical issues in medical aid in dying (MAID), little research has examined the lived experiences of individuals pursuing this end-of-life option. This phenomenological study aims to explore how terminally ill individuals experience the pursuit of MAID through their embodied perceptions and interpretations.
New presidents: Take some advice from this six-year veteran
A recent American Council on Education report noted that, in 2022, presidents had been in their position an average of 5.9 years, 2.6 fewer years than in 2006. Many new names and faces in campus leadership will be introduced at commencement ceremonies across the country in the days ahead. Just as students walk out as graduates, leaders will be walking in, replacing those who are retiring, resigning or otherwise stepping down—in some cases, even after a relatively short tenure.
THE PERFECT STORM – The Moderate Voice
This is so much more than grief — what we are living with every day. The more we know about our world, the more we can respond, not react, to the chaos we’re living in. The more we know about ourselves, the better chance we have of making it through with less permanent damage. Yes, we’re all grieving – personally and universally. For ourselves, for our loved ones, for strangers. For merciless wildfires and relentless news reports of cruelty.
My Turn: Good leadership means communicating differently in the pandemic
Published: 6/7/2020 6:00:16 AM While most of my colleagues who lead New Hampshire’s colleges and universities might agree that projecting confidence and a certain level of authority goes with the job, the way we communicate has changed since the coronavirus pandemic impacted our educational communities. This also holds true for business and municipal leaders and those at the head of other large organizations here in the Granite State.
Higher ed leader communication: An evolution is underway

While most college and university presidents agree that projecting confidence and a certain level of authority goes with the job, the way we communicate has changed since the coronavirus pandemic.
A GOBLIN, A TURKEY AND AN ELF WALKED INTO A BAR…… – The Moderate Voice
By Kim Mooney A goblin, a turkey and an elf walked into a bar……. Ok, it’s not a bar. It’s Walmart in October. Rows and rows of holiday bling. I mean holidays plural. Slim aisles split by honeycomb displays of chachkis, almost separating one holiday from another. Almost. The entire ‘holiday department’ drawing you in with the soft haze of thousands of tiny white lights.

The Post-Holiday Blues – The Moderate Voice
by Kim Mooney Sometimes when the holidays are over, we experience a letdown kind of sadness and depression. Visiting friends and family have gone home, all of the gatherings are over, the decorations come down, and we are left with more time alone and more silence. In some ways, this may be a relief. In others, it may remind us that we are not being buffered from our feelings as we were when there were so many holiday distractions around.
When You’re Supposed To Be Happy, But You’re Not: Surviving the Holidays – The Moderate Voice
When You’re Supposed To Be Happy, But You’re Not: Surviving the Holidays by Kim Mooney For some people, the holidays truly are a festival of joy and sharing — parties, family gatherings, gift-giving, religious services, decorating, connecting with friends and family through cards, cooking, emails, video conferencing, social media, shopping, and travel. Others may choose more modest ways to acknowledge the amplified press of the calendar.
