What was your first job as a journalist?
I started my career as a radio announcer with WRDZ 1260m. I had an intern at WZAK 93.1fm under Betty J.Haliburton.She was a talk show host
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I am not a great typist. I never liked the typewriter. LOL
How is social media changing news?
Social media can reach readers across the globe. There is not a newsstand.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
My favorite fictional journalist is Lois Lane.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means - being able to tell a story as if you were there.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
The funniest hashtag is about the lady who tried to attack Mcdonald's workers because they would not mix a slushy.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Text and emails are acceptable. Phone calls are also applicable.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use Grammarly, social media tools and make my newspaper
What's your favorite social network?
I must say, I enjoy Facebook.
Who do you wish followed you?
I would love for Robin Roberts, Tyler Perry, CNN, and Martha McCollough of Fox to follow my stories.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love to write and create narratives. The pen is mighty, and the keyboard is dangerous.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not work for my high school newspaper. I was the Vice President.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The Marshanette Daniels story. I have followed and updated this story since 2018.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Tell the story right the first time and take ownership of what you write. Professional journalists will make corrections.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Daily - early in the morning.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
The best pitch I ever got was the story about Saniyah Nicholson. The 9-year-old died due to gunfire.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
The worst pitch I got was fake news.
What's your favorite drink?
I am a lemonade lady.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I am at home watching horror films. LOL. Or I am dining with family and friends.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Hill, MSNBC, CNN, and the Independent News.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
LOL. I like to pick on elected officials. I like investigating stories that most journalists fear.
