Whatever the reason, here are some tips for learning Japanese in Japan to help excel your familiarity with the language and start using it from day one. In Japan, starting in middle school, kids are required to study English.
Foodie Find: Tomukun Ann Arbor
Seeing as I’m heading to Korea next week, today I’m going to share my favorite Korean restaurant from my old home turf in Michigan. Outside of Korea, Tomukun in Ann Arbor is my favorite Korean BBQ joint. Prior to moving to Japan, my ideal Friday night would be spending 2-3 hours at Tomukun with my best friend Jullia and catching up on life whilst stuffing our faces with the feast before us (see photo above for example).
Foodie Find: Cafe Olivea Omura
By now, it’s no surprise that a simple change of scenery can do wonders for creativity. Do you too find that to be true? Well, if you find yourself in Nagasaki with some time to kill, take a day trip out to Omura and go relax at Cafe Olivea. Introducing SYT Community Table
My friend Jullia came to visit me when I lived in Tokyo, and I showed her this spreadsheet I kept of places I wanted to go and restaurants I wanted to try while I was living there. Though I’m sure she was a little put off by it, as anyone might be by someone who was hyper organized about the places they eat rather than the bigger to-dos in life, she seemed impressed.
Foodie Find: Cafe Tresbe San Juan
In a land where fried and processed foods prevail, Cafe Tresbe is a Godsend. On a food tour around the city of San Juan is when I first tried this place, and I ended up going back twice because the food was so good. Try any of the tacos or sliders on the menu and get the papaya smoothie. It’s all fresh and locally sourced full of protein, tomatoes, various root vegetables special to Puerto Rico, and sprinkled with a little lime juice.
