1 Introduction Cells constantly generate endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) as by-products of aerobic metabolism in the mitochondria and maintain redox homeostasis by regulating the balance between ROS formation and scavenging.[1] Excessive ROS, known as oxidative stress, damages lipids, proteins, and DNA, ultimately leading to cell death.
