Owner/ Operator opinion?
Under 60 it will be pretty rare for owners not run their own boats except for occasional long trips or parties when the owner what to enjoy the fun. And anything under 60/65 is going to be a bit cramped to have a captain. above 60, say up to 80 I d say half the boats will still be owner operated. Above that it will be pretty rare. I know a retired couple who cruise a 96 Lazzara on their own and spend months in the Bahamas. He is very experienced though and considers maintaining his boat therapy.
OUPV/Six-pack Captain’s License Online
Capt Ralph said: ↑ You may be ahead of the game if you have gone thru the flying test. Government questions are different from everyday language. And with your flying ticket, you have been trained and up there a few hours. Many YF kids fly and float. Some aspects of vectors (set & drift). Pre-flight is always a great part of a float plan. Brief, fly (boat) the brief and de-brief are still the same, just more relaxed with lots more pictures of smiles in the never ending de-brief.
Oily film out of exhaust
Discussion in 'Ocean Yacht' started by ShionMcIntosh, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Anyone have any idea what would cause this. It occurred after I shut the engines down today and I went back to the boat several hours later and it seems to still happening. Also coming out of both exhaust Un-burned oil or fuel, weeping out. If you stick your finger in it, is it dark or smells like fuel? How much oil are your engines using? What engines?
Boat boarding: Ladders, Steps, Passerelles!
I was at Big Game/Bimini in 2018 and an older guy had charterered a 70’-ish-Euro looking yacht moored across from us. He had a nice blond companion with him—older than his “niece” would be, but easily 30-40 years younger than him. Next morning I was walking the dock early and they were on the rear cockpit with the guy and the guy said “can you help her get off this boat?” It was high tide and the bulwarks were about 5’ higher than the dock but the swim platform was was below the dock level.
Almost 50 year old boat, is it worth the project to update and refit?
Insanity is buying a million dollars new 45/50 footer express style boat with minimal comforts knowing it will depreciate at an average of $80k a year in the first 5 years... Having spent $250k and counting in the last 5 years refiting a 1970 53 MY, my answer to your question is yes, it makes sense. To me. I still have a year or so to go and probably another $75/100k. But at the end we ll have the boat that we want, we the layout we want and the systems we want.
Looking to purchase: Galeon 400 Fly
I'm new to boating and am interested in purchasing a Galeon 400 Fly. I'll likely end up getting it new via Marine Max as I'm confident I can negotiate a very attractive number that won't be terribly far off from where the pre-owned boats are years 2018 - 2019. I live in S. Fla. and the purpose of the boat will be for pleasure cruising with my 2 young kids and wife and some family and friends.
Financing for business owners and complex tax return?
Sounds to me like you're just making excuses of why they won't loan you money and excluding a lot of critical information. They don't look favorably today on those avoiding taxes and claiming they're really making a lot of money. However, they're not in the business of turning away credit worthy customers. $400k is a substantial loan to someone not reporting income. Depreciation isn't a get out of debt free card as depreciable assets require renewing and replacing. Lenders are not stupid.
New Anti Rolling Gyro (ARG) Stabilizer
All After researching the various stabilizers, I chose an ARG from American Spin Doctors for my 2007 Pama 54’ Flybridge motor yacht during the COVID layup. It’s a game changer. I finally got to try it this past week and was amazed how well it performs. My rationale for the ARG: it fits my use(s), my budget, it’s simple-ish-er to install, and (literally) fits really well in my lazarette. And it really works.
South Florida Mini Loop
We've gone through in up to 85' boats and drafts up to 5'3". At current depths you could even do greater. Our preference is to be at the first lock when they open for the day and then try to cross in one day or, at worse, make it most of the way and finish early on day two. I would assume you cruise the East Coast all the time so won't comment on Key West to Stuart. On the west coast there are many great areas to spend time. We love Fort Myers for a day. Then Sanibel Island can be fun.
Dockmate, Yacht Controller, etc.....
I do prefer fixed aft deck controls on the aft deck if you can really see with them and get your hands on them. I've used both Yacht Controller products, one was the joystick fixed on the aft deck. I didn't like it, it was kind of clunky in it's actions and a bit violent maneuvering docking.....stayed in gear too long etc...… I do use the remote control yacht controller on a Sunseeker predator everytime I pull it out of the slip.
