Meriem Berrada Took Morocco to Venice for the First Time
"People were not really expecting that kind of setup," the curator said, reflecting on the ambition, scale and reception of Morocco's first official Venice Biennale pavilion. Meriem Berrada.
An Urgent Call From Artists and Curators of the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia 2026
On March 13, a group of seventy-four artists and curators participating in the main exhibition of the Biennale sent a letter to its director, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, and to the Biennale’s management, requesting that they revoke the decision to relocate the Israeli Pavilion to the Arsenale, in proximity to the central exhibition “In Minor Keys,” conceived by the late Koyo Kouoh.
The Sovereign Note: When We See Us in Minor Keys
Courtesy of the Raw Material Company. Photography by Trevor Stuurman. There are women who walk into a room and shift its temperature. Not with volume or flash, but with presence — that quiet, calibrated command that makes the air feel more intentional. Koyo Kouoh was one of those women. She moved like meaning. She spoke with tempo. She walked as if she were carrying a gallery inside her and often, she was. When we lost her on May 10, 2025, in Basel it felt like a cultural axis tilting.

The New York Times > Koyo Kouoh, the celebrated Cameroonian-born curator behind some of the most significant exhibitions of African contemporary art in recent decades, has died unexpectedly at the age of 57.
