Experiment with post-quantum cryptography today
Practically all data sent over the Internet today is at risk in the future if a sufficiently large and stable quantum computer is created. Anyone who captures data now could decrypt it. Luckily, there is a solution: we can switch to so-called post-quantum (PQ) cryptography, which is designed to be secure against attacks of quantum computers. After a six-year worldwide selection process, in July 2022, NIST announced they will standardize Kyber, a post-quantum key agreement scheme.
TLS Post-Quantum Experiment
October 30, 2019 1:00PM In June, we announced a wide-scale post-quantum experiment with Google. We implemented two post-quantum (i.e., not yet known to be broken by quantum computers) key exchanges, integrated them into our TLS stack and deployed the implementation on our edge servers and in Chrome Canary clients. The goal of the experiment was to evaluate the performance and feasibility of deployment in TLS of two post-quantum key agreement ciphers.
A (Relatively Easy To Understand) Primer on Elliptic Curve Cryptography
Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is one of the most powerful but least understood types of cryptography in wide use today. At CloudFlare, we make extensive use of ECC to secure everything from our customers' HTTPS connections to how we pass data between our data centers. Fundamentally, we believe it's important to be able to understand the technology behind any security system in order to trust it.
Constant-time code verification with Memory Sanitizer
In the cryptography context, the side-channel attacks are about exploiting computer system implementation to gain information about the secret key. First such attacks were introduced by Paul Kocher in his paper called “Timing Attacks on Implementations of Diffie-Hellman, RSA, DSS, and Other Systems”. Since then attacks were much improved to include different sources of side-channel information like power consumption, and electromagnetic and acoustic emissions.
