Positively Mary!
I grew up reading newspaper comics. Among the various ones I remember seeing as a kid and still running today is “Mary Worth.” Now, Mary was not on my reading list as a kid. It was a soap opera strip continuing from day to day. As a middle-aged adult however, I learned the artist for Mary Worth was the same artist who drew Batman comic books when I was young, Joe Giella. So, little by little, I began reading Mary Worth when some of my favorite comic strips were being cancelled.
OPINION: Moving jigsaw puzzle
My life has felt like a broken jigsaw puzzle the last few months. My wife and I have been moving into a new house and trying to sell our old one.It seemed like purchasing another home and getting rid of our one in town was going to be so simple. Everyone was saying it was a sellers' market. We came up with a low price for a quick sale.

OPINON: In search of contentment
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. This summer I saw my best friend from kindergarten (who now lives out East) twice. It is always great to see him. He is like the brother I never had. However, I always thought he was more successful than I was.Even when I look back to childhood, he was the first of us to try everything and typically the better at everything we tried. Little has changed in the past five decades.

Perpetual ponderings: Seeking the peace angels spoke of
Peace on Earth. How many times have we seen that phrase? Especially around this time of year!It seems as if that is what many of us are seeking this Christmas. Peace on Earth. An end to conflicts both abroad and at home. It has been a year of great conflict, especially within our nation. How many soldiers have died in the Middle East? How many police officers have died here?
Perpetual ponderings: Ignoring the wounds
Let’s face it, everyone goes through life with emotional wounds. Some of those wounds were caused by people around us. It is inevitable. For some of us, bullying was part of those wounds.Recently, at a party, I chatted with an old classmate who heard I had written a book on bullying. She told me how she had been bullied in school and described some of the events to me. It surprised me because I remember her having a tough exterior when she was a girl and even playing sports with the boys.
Perpetual Ponderings: A learning experience
In recent weeks, many of us have been celebrating the achievements made by young adults in our communities. Graduation. That includes my wife and I. Our one and only child graduated high school June 3.Is this really the same little girl whom I saw for the first time at Otsego Memorial Hospital some 18 years ago? The little baby whose umbilical cord I cut shortly after she was born.

Perpetual Ponderings: The Gift of Christmas - Gaylord Herald Times: Opinion
What Christmas gifts do you remember most? How long did they last? When I was a kid, one of my favorite all-time gifts was a toy robot. It wasn't a true robot like today. However it would walk a short distance, its chest plate would open and these little, clear plastic guns would pop out. The guns lit up, making it look like they were shooting laser beams. For an 8-year-old boy, it was fantastic. Just like being Will Robinson! An online service is needed to view this article in its entirety.
