What was your first job as a journalist?
Still waiting on that one.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
My mom had a typewriter and I watched her use it a few times when I was a kid.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Nothing too fancy; I type stories into Word, use the Adobe suite for visuals, and my phone along with a digital voice recorder for the rest.
What's your favorite social network?
I more or less live on Twitter. I'm trying to become more well-rounded though and have spent lots of time on Instagram and TikTok lately.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I can't sing or play sports very well.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yep! I was the sports editor. And one of our writers, a classmate of mine, was Jeff Passan. He's done quite a bit better than me since then.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I think any time I have the opportunity to tell the stories of athletes who don't typically get a ton of recognition, I'm proud of it.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any time works for me. Doesn't mean I'll get to it right away, but I'm always open.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On my bike going for a long ride somewhere, if I'm doing it right.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Like many mid-major hoops writers, I consider Kyle Whelliston's work an inspiration, so any of his essays and compilations are way up there.
