Design of Single-Sided Fillet Welds under Transverse Load
Abstract In North American steel design specifications, a directional strength-enhancement factor is used to increase the predicted strength of fillet welds subjected to transverse loading (i.e., loading at 90° to the weld axis). Committees have expressed concerns about this factor being unsafe for single-sided fillet welds; however, due to a lack of testing, only cautionary statements have been made in most specifications to address this.
Reliability of Existing and Proposed North American Design Provisions for RHS Compression Members with Slender Elements
Abstract Design provisions for axially compressed rectangular hollow section (RHS) members with slender elements were evaluated using an approximate first-order reliability method analysis. A total of 342 nonlinear finite-element models, covering a range of width-to-thickness, height-to-thickness, and nondimensional slenderness ratios, were developed and analyzed.

Evaluation of the interstorey drift performance of timber beam-hanger connection systems
Authors: Harrison Leach, Colin MacDougall macdougc@queensu.ca, and Kyle Tousignant Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering e-First Abstract Résumé References Abstract This paper presents the results of a study on pre-engineered steel and aluminum, nominally “pinned”, bolted-plate (BP), staggered dovetail (S-DT), and dovetail prototype (DTP) beam-hanger connection systems for glue-laminated timber joints under a combination of shear and reversed cyclic loading.
