My mom's 100th (in heaven) Birthday: An Uncommon Woman (long!)
My mom was both a conventional, and unconventional person. I, her family were so blessed to have her for as long as we did (86 yrs). She and her 1 sister, 3 brothers lived both in Manhattan's bustling, somewhat infamous (movie stars, and gansters) Hell's Kitchen, and waaaay uptown in Inwood the northernmost neighborhood of Manhattan. They were 1st Gen Greek-Americans.

What do you do when they pray at your front door?
as I drove up to where they stood, one of the dogs made a dart at whatever it was and leaped back. Both dogs kept their distance, but kept watching the ground. I got out of the car and saw it was a praying mantis keeping both dogs at bay. Respect! Anyway, I'd get out my camera and get pictures.

Another fun day on the picket line!
Thu Oct 5, 2023, 11:00 PM Seriously, it was fun. Someone brought a speaker and we danced and sang, loads of laughter. We waved and cheered at all of the honks, especially the big rigs. I still can't get over how much support we have in this community. Tomorrow will be a big day. The union is bussing in members from our smaller satellite clinics to the three larger clinics, so there will be even more picketers. I guess things aren't going so well inside the clinic.
Just got back from 4 hours on the picket line. What a beautiful day, too!

I have such sad news to share. Tudor just passed away.
He was OK this morning. As the day went on he got quieter and sleepier. Unfortunately there are NO emergency vet clinics open on the weekend in this whole county!!! I have been sitting with him, all afternoon, giving him liquids and holding him. About 10 minutes ago I knew he was gone. I did everything I could and have no idea what caused his death. Maybe his mother sensed something I didn't. and that's why she neglected him.
Maybe I pushed outside the edge of the envelope (vaccines)

Hair of the Dog: Wear Your Best Friend
Move over, sheep. Adios, alpacas. You don't need a pasture or hay to make soft, lovely yarn. You just need a dog. Dog hair can be up to eight times warmer than sheep wool. Clothing and other items made from dog hair, sometimes referred to as chiengora (chien is French for “dog”), isn’t a new niche fad – in fact, it’s been around for centuries. The Salish, indigenous North Americans who lived in the Pacific Northwest, were known for making blankets from dog hair.
