Middle-Grade Review: Zed Moonstein Makes a Friend By Lance Rubin
About This Book: Zed Moonstein is terrible at making friends. For the most part, though, that’s not such a big deal, because Zed has Rishti, his best friend and the only one he needs. They’re into the same stuff, they laugh at the same weird jokes, and they love living in MonoTown, the home of MonoLyth, the raddest tech company in the world. Even better, Zed’s mom works at MonoLyth, which means they get early access to all the newest devices and apps.
Zed Moonstein Makes a Friend
Gr 4-6–Zed has always had trouble making friends. He doesn’t mind, since he’s been BFF with Rishti since the third grade. But when she starts hanging out with another girl, Caz, in middle school, Zed feels threatened and lonely. Out of desperation, Zed steals a virtual friend app his mom is developing for her tech company, MonoLyth. Zed’s new bond with virtual friend Matt seems fine until it develops dark human qualities, jealously sabotaging Zed and anyone he cares about, especially Rishti.
Crying Laughing - Underlined
The author of Denton Little's Deathdate gives us a tragicomic story of bad dates, bad news, bad performances, and one girl's determination to find the funny in high school. Winnie Friedman has been waiting for the world to catch on to what she already knows: she's hilarious. It might be a long wait, though. After bombing a stand-up set at her own bat mitzvah, Winnie has kept her jokes to herself. Well, to herself and her dad, a former comedian and her inspiration.

Amanda’s on (well-deserved) vacation this week, so I jumped at the chance to fill in so I can show y’all all the awesome books in my life right now! Without further ado: Zero Day: China’s Cyber Wars by T.L. Williams— Mr. Williams just did a talk at my library about his experience as a CIA operative and his novels. He gave a wonderful talk and was lovely to work with. Fun fact: even though the book is fiction, it took the CIA two years (way longer than usual) to approve it. Hmmmmm.
Denton Little's Still Not Dead
"Denton and his quirky friends are laugh-out-loud funny, even as their riotous adventures raise deeper questions about science, government control, life, and death." -- SLJ You only live once--unless you're Denton Little Denton Little lives in a world exactly like our own except that everyone knows the day on which they will die. The good news: Denton has lived through his deathdate.
Official Announcement About DENTON 2: NEW TITLE! RELEASE DATE!
Many of you have understandably been quite perplexed as to the whereabouts of the second DENTON book. You get to the end of the first one, you see the page that's pictured here, you head to the internet excitedly, and THEN YOU CAN'T FIND A SINGLE THING ABOUT THE BOOK. I wish I could say I planned that as part of some J.J. Abrams-esque secrecy marketing scheme (I'm realizing I seriously should have done that), but I did not. I most certainly did not.
