Introduction Lanthanide (Ln3+) doped upconversion nanomaterials can convert low energy photons to high energy emissions.1 With their unique non-blinking and non-photobleaching anti-Stokes emissions,2 upconversion nanomaterials have attracted numerous attention towards emerging applications, including volumetric displays,3 multimodality bio-imaging,4 photodynamic therapy,5 high-security level anti-counterfeiting,6 optogenetics,7 and super-resolution imaging,8 etc.
Precisely Tailoring Upconversion Dynamics via Energy Migration in Core-Shell Nanostructures
Upconversion emission dynamics has long been believed to be determined by the activator and its interaction with neighboring sensitizers. This vision is, however, confirmed not valid for nanostructures by this work, where we demonstrate that excitation energy migration affects greatly upconversion emission dynamics.
