“Can’t Stop Worrying? Just Schedule It for Later”
Did you know that you can timebox and even postpone your worry? I don’t need to tell you that anxiety has a way of hijacking the ADHD brain’s attention and focus. That it shows up unannounced, derailing our plans and schedules. But what if you could turn the tables and put anxiety itself on a schedule? Giving your worries a scheduled time slot — and pairing them with healthy reframing and other worry-busting skills — isn’t about suppressing or trying to stop anxiety.
“How Rewriting the Past Can Help You Overcome ADHD Shame”
Shame — that deep sense of inadequacy and unworthiness — has the unique ability to travel across time, informing our present and our future. While the work of rebuilding self-worth happens in the now, it also often requires a trip to the past. If shame weighs on you, loosen its grip by incorporating these two short exercises (the same I share with my clients) into your days.
Simple Pleasures, Tiny Wins Improve Life with ADHD
Distractibility, novelty-seeking, and a tendency to expect the worst all contribute to the ADHD-related challenge of staying with the good and shaking off the bad. When this happens with my own therapy clients with ADHD, I recommend self-monitoring, or the practice of observing your mood and behavior with intention. In my experience, it has powerful effects on symptom control and wellbeing. If self-monitoring is new to you, here are two ways to work it into your everyday life.

ADHD has no “cure” — nor should it. Managing ADHD is not about fitting in or calming down; it is about standing out — identifying your competitive advantages and developing those strengths into skills that will help you achieve your personal goals. Building Confidence
You can generate positive reasons for your child’s behavior if you look for them. With a better understanding of how she thinks, it’ll be easier for you to help her deal with the challenges in her life. For the following exercise, write the sentence stems on a piece of lined paper and ask your child to finish them. 1. I am most creative when … 2. I can show others my imagination by … 3. I am really good at … 4. My last really good idea was … 5. One thing I do differently from everyone else is … 6.
Wanted: Career Confidence
“I have been out of work for six months now. When I see a job opening, I talk myself out of applying for it. I have low self-esteem because of my past failures and being jobless for so long. Help!” Getting a job requires you to sell yourself enthusiastically. Many people who have been diagnosed with ADHD can recite their symptoms backward and forward, but they have a difficult time selling their strengths and skills.
Is Your ADHD Ruining Your Happily Ever After?
You wonder whether you’ll ever be able to settle down in a relationship, afraid that no one will ever let you be yourself with adult ADHD. You tell yourself, Listen, listen, just listen, when talking with loved ones. You try to be patient with a partner who seems to move in slow motion compared to your own faster tempo. You think, “Why do I always have to slow down?
Emphasizing Their Strengths
One parent, troubled that her child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD) didn’t do as well in school as his classmates, began to look for his strengths. She noticed her boy’s creative and artistic talents, and started to foster those qualities. Whenever she fell back into the habit of comparing her son with kids who seemed to easily excel in school, she asked herself, “What’s right with my child?” Answering this question always led her back to encouraging him.
Telephone-Administered Psychotherapy for Depression
Background Several studies have shown that telephone-administered cognitive-behavioral therapy (T-CBT) is superior to forms of no treatment controls. No study has examined if the skills-training component to T-CBT provides any benefit beyond that provided by nonspecific factors. Objective To test the efficacy of a 16-week T-CBT against a strong control for attention and nonspecific therapy effects. Setting Telephone administration of psychotherapy with patients in their homes.
You Will Regret This Later. So Why Are You Doing It?
If you have attention deficit disorder (ADHD or ADD), you know all about impulsivity — taking action or saying something without thinking about it first. There can be some benefits of impulsivity — taking risks that can pay off, for instance. However, the problem with taking action without thinking about it is obvious.
How to Help a Child with Both ADHD and Mood Disorder
I have seen too many clients with ADHD whose psychiatric evaluation is summarized like this: “Age 10, diagnosis ADHD. Age 12, ADHD and depression. Age 14, ADHD, depression, and cannabis dependence.” Giving a child or an adult a deficit-disorder label without underscoring their strengths impairs confidence and motivation. This may lead to clinical depression.

Your Brilliance Regimen: 3 Family Exercises to Nurture Creativity
The things that often frustrate you and can make your child’s life miserable at times — spaciness, distractibility, and impulsiveness — are the very things that also make them exceptionally intuitive and imaginative. Fire needs oxygen to burn. Similarly, creative inspiration requires a certain sort of openness, exactly the sort that your child displays. Creativity often requires reframing or rethinking old problems.
